1. THE CREATION. God created the heavens and the earth by his word ; and it was his will that they should not come into existence all at once, but by degrees. For he had from the beginning determined the number, form, and proportions of all things.

Now hear how God, in six days, made the heavens and the earth.

God said, “ Let there be light: and there was
