Anglaise des Indes Orientales à la guerre de 1771 contre le Rajah du Tanjour, dont l'injustice a ensuite été reconnue en Angleterre. by the expulfion of the common enemy, the faid Nabob 1762 and the faid Rajah being equally defirous that the people whom God hath placed under their rule may enjoy the full fruits thereof, have mutually confented to eftablish a firm friendship between them; and to that end they have agreed, and do agree to fettle and adjuft all ac counts and matters of difpute between them in manner following; and they do faithfully promife, each for what concerns himself, punctually to perform the fame. 1) The faid Rajah Pertaupa Sing doth hereby oblige himself to pay unto the faid Nabob Anaverdy Cawn, Bebauder, the fum of twenty-two Lacks of Rupees, coined in the English Eaft-India Company's mint at Fort St. George, or the value thereof in Star Pagodas coined in the said mint, valuing the faid Rupees at the rate of 350, for 100 Pagodas, at the times and in manner following; that is to fay. On the day of figning this agreement by the faid Pertaupa. Sing three Lacks of Rupees, 300,000 In the month of April, 1763, five, Lacks of Rupees, 500,000 In the month of November, 1763, five Lacks of Rupees,. 500,000 In the month of April, 1764, five Lacks of Rupees, 500,000 In the month of Auguft, 1764, four Lacks of Rupees, 400.000 In all, Rupees 2,200,000 And the faid Nabob Anaverdy Cawn, Behauder, doth agree to accept of the faid twenty-two Lacks of Rupees, in full payment and fatisfaction for or on account of Pefheuth, and in full of all accounts and demands Whatfoever unto the roth day of July laft paff, being, the full term and expiration of the year of Phafely, 1171. 2) The faid Rajah Pertaupa Sing doth hereby oblige bimfelf to pay yearly, in the month of July, unto the faid Nabob Anaverdy Cawn, Behauder, or his fucceffor, the fum of two Lacks of Rupees, as a Pefhcufh or tribute to the Mogul: and forasmuch as it hath been the ufage and cuftom to make certain prefents to the Nabob and his principal officers at the time of paying the annual Pefhcuth, the faid Rajab doth promife to 1762 to pay yearly to the faid Nabob, or his fucceffors, (at the day and time of paying the faid Pefhcufh) the further fum of two Lacks of Rupees as a prefent, provided that no further fum, either for Peshcush or Durbar charges, be demanded of him; which faid two Lacks, making together four Lacks, fhall be paid in Rupees, coined in the Company's mint, or in Star Pagodas, at the abovementioned exchange: and the faid Nabob Ana verdy Çawn, Behauder, doth agree to accept of the firft named fum, of two Lacks, in full for the annual Pefhcufh due to the Mogul, and alfo of the fecond named fum of two Lacks of Rupees, in full for the ufual and cuftomary prefents or Durbar charges, and doth hereby promile, that he will not demand any thing more. 2 ni b 3) Whereas the faid Nabob Anaverdy Cawn, Behauder, hath in bis poffeffion a bond given by the faid Rajah Pertaupa Sing unto the faid Nabob's late Father, Anaverdy Cawn, Behauder, dated the 15th moon Zehedgha, Hegira 1158 for the fum of feven Lacks of Rupees, which bond appears fair and uncancelled, and without any receipt or indorsement thereon, although the faid Rajah Pertaupa Sing doth alledge that the fum, or the greatest part thereof. hath been discharged; the faid Nabob Anaverdy Cawn, Behauder, as a teftimony of his good inclinations to cultivate a lafting friendship with the faid Rajah, doth promife, at the time of figning this agreement by the faid Rajah, he will caufe the faid bond to be delivered up to him to be cancelled as if the fame had been fully paid and discharged. 4) The faid Nabob Anaverdy Cawn, Behauder, doth hereby confirm unto the faid Rajah Pertaupa Sing the full and free poffeffion and enjoyment of the diftricts of Covilady and Elangad, which diftricts the faid Nabob did give and grant unto the faid Rajah during the late troubles, as may appear by the faid Nabob's Saneds. 5) The faid Nabob Anaverdy Cawn, Behauder, having expended immenfe fums during the late troubles in defence of the province under his government, found it neceffary, after the expulfion of the common enemy, to call upon the feveral Jemmidars, Poligars, and Ja gue guedars, to contribute each a moderate fum towards 1762 reimburfing the monies fo expended in procuring the bleffings of the peace, of which they became partakers, and amongst others did demand of Tremaal Row, Killedar of Arnee, his reafonable quota; but the faid Tre maul Row having obftinately refufed to comply therea with, and having alfo in other refpects behaved himfelf difobediently, the faid Nabob found himfelf obliged to compel him to a compliance with his demand; and did accordingly fubdue and take the forts of Arnee and Doby Guddy, with all the Jaghire thereunto belon ging, as alfo the perfon of the faid Tremaul Row, with his family and others. The faid Nabob having thus Convinced the faid Tremaul Row, and all the world, that he can and will enforce due obedience in all who are fubject to His government, is now equally defirous of fhewing to all mankind that compaffion is stronger in him than refentment. From thefe motives, as well as in condefcenfion to the request of the faid Rajab Pertaupa Sing, the faid Nabob doth hereby promife, that as foon as the faid Rajah fhall have figned this agreed ment, he, the faid Nabob, will caufe the faid Tremaul Row, with his family, attendants, and all other per fons who were taken and made prifoners at Arnee, to be releafed and fet at full liberty; and further, that on the day the fum of three Lacks of Rupees, mentioned in the first article hereof, fhall be paid, he will caufe the faid Tremaul Row to be put in full poffeffion of the whole Jaghire he poffeffed and enjoyed before the capture of Arnee (excepting however the faid Fort and Doby-Guddy, which the faid Nabob will retain in his own poffeffion); and provided that the faid Tremaul Row shall not at any time hereafter erect, or caufe to be erected, any fortrefs, walled pagoda, or other ftrong- hold, and that he fhall not even erect or build any wall round his dwelling houfe exceeding eight feethigh and two feet thick; and further, that the faid Tremaul Row fhall in all things bebave himself with dae obedience to the Government, and pay yearly, in the month of July, unto the faid Nabob, or his fucceffors, the fum of ten thoufand Rupees; and the faid Rajah Pertaupa Sing doth promife for the faid Tremaul Row, that he fhall in all things demean and behave himfelf accordingly, and pay yearly the ftipulated fum.
