hereas it is ftipulated in the treaty concluded on the 22d of June, 1799, between the honourable English Eaft Indian Behauder, and the Nabob Nizam ud Dowlah Afoph Jah Behander, for ftrengthening the alliance and friendship fubfifting between the faid English Eaft India Company Behauder, his Highnefs Nizam ud Dowlah Afoph Jah Behauder, and the Paifhwah Row Pundit Purdhan Behauder, and for effecting a fettlement of the territories of the late Tippoo Sultaun, that a feparate government fhall be eftablished in Myfore and that his Highnefs Maha Rajah Myfore Kiftna Rajah Oodiaver Behauder fhall poffefs certain territories, Specified in fchedule C. annexed to the faid treaty, and that for the effectual establishment of the Government of Myfore, his Highness fhall be affifted with a fuitable fubfidiary force, to be furnifhed by the English East India Company Behauder.

Orientales wet l'invincible Nabob Nizam ud Dowlah Afoph Jah pour raffermir l'alliance et l'amitié fubfiftant entre la dite invincible Compagnie Anglaife des Indes Orientales, fa Hauteffe le Nizam ud Dowlah Afoph Jah Behauder, et l'invincible Paifhwah Row Pundit Purdhan, et pour régler le fort des poffeffions du defunt Tippoo Sultaun, qu'un gouvernement feparé feroit établi a Myfore et que Sa Hauteffe Maha Rajah Myfore Kiftna Rajah Qodiaver Behauder poffederolt de certains diftricts fpecifiés dans la lifte B. annexée au dit traité, et que pour affurer effectivement le gouvernement de Myfore, fa Hauteffe fera affiftée par une force fubfidiaire convenable, à furnir par la Compagnie Anglaife des Indes Orientales.

1799 fubfifting between the said English East India Company and the faid Maha Rajah Mysore Kistna Rajah Oodiaver Behauder, this treaty is concluded by Lieutenant-General George Harris, Commander in Chief of the forces of his Britannic Majesty, and of the faid English Eaft India Company Behauder, in the Carnatic and on the Coast of Malabar, the honourable Colonel Arthur Wel lesley, the honourable Henry Wellesley, Lieutenant-Calonel William Kirkpatrick, and Lieutenant-Colonel Barry Clofe, on the part and in the name of the Right honou rable Richard Earl, of Mornington, Governor-General aforefaid, and by his Highness Maha Rajah Myfore Kiftna Rajah Oodiaver Behauder, which fhall be binding upon the contracting parties, as long as the fun and moon fhall endure.

ART. I.

The friends and enemies of either of the contracting parties shall be confidered as the friends and enemies of both.

The honourable the East India Company Behauder agrees to maintain, and his Highness Maha Rajah My, fore Kiftna Rajah Oodiaver Behauder agrees to receive a military force for the defence and fecurity of his Highness's dominions; in confideration of which pro tection, his Highness engages to pay the annual fum of Seven lacks of ftar pagodas to the Jaid Eaft India Company the faid fum to be paid in equal monthly_instal. ments, commencing from the 1st of July, anno Domini, 1799. And his Highness further agrees that the difpofal of the faid fum, together with the arrangement and em ployment of the troops to be maintained by it, shall be left entirely to the company.

ART. III.

If it fhall be neceffary for the protection and defence of the territories of the contrading parties, or of either of them, that hoftilities fhall be undertaken, or prepara. tions made for commencing hoftilities against any fate or power, his faid Highnes Maha Rajah Myfore Kifina Rajah Oodiaver Behauder agrees to contribute towards the discharge of the increased expence, incurred by the augmentation of the military force, and the unavoidable charges of war fuch a fum as fhall appear to the Go.
