Henric Petrina, 1640 On the map of the northern regions, in the beginning of this volume, we find Gruntlandia (Greenland) laid down precisely as it is in the map in Ptolemy's "Cosmographia," edition of 1482, as well as in subsequent editions. The town of Alba is laid down on the eastern coast, and beneath this land is "lic habitant Pygmei vulgo Screlinger dicti.” This great work of Olaus Magnus, Archbishop of Upsal, on the countries of the North, takes the front rank among books relating to those parts. It was first printed in Latin, at Rome, by Viotto, in 1555; and at Basle, in 1567, both in folio. An Italian translation at Venice, in 1565; and an English translation by J. S., at London, by J.
