It was written as an introductory chapter, with a desire of completing a History of Domestic Architecture, a de sign which will not be relinquished, should the following pages meet with sufficient patronage to induce the author to proceed with his intention. In this spemes of composition, the labour of authenticating facts becomes a pleasure, and his next subj ect will be an attempt to illustrate the Baronial Castles of England, in cdntinuation of the history.
