Senate bill No. 108, entitled "An act to establish a uniform system of text books for use in the common schools of Missouri, and to repeal sections 7087, 7088, 7089 and 7090 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri of 1879," was taken up and referred to the Committee on Public and Normal School Education.

Senator McGinnis moved to reconsider the vote by which substitute for Senate bills Nos. 6, 7 and 8 was ordered engrossed and printed, which was agreed to.

The substitute was then recommitted to the Committee on Ways and Means.

The following message was received from the Governor, through his private secretary, Mr. Yantis, which was read:

Senator Edwards offered the following amendment to the title of the bill, which was read and agreed to:

Amend title of Senate bill No. 43 by striking out all after the word" section," in second line, and inserting the following words and figures, to wit: "1904, article 18 of chapter 24 of the Revised Statutes of 1879, entitled 'Crimes and criminal procedure.'”

The title, as amended, was read and agreed to.

Senator Young moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill passed, and to lay that motion on the table; the latter motion prevailed.

Senator Young moved that when the Senate adjourn it adjourn to meet to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock, which was agreed to.

Senate bill No. 46, entitled "An act to amend an act entitled' Anact prescribing how grand jurors shall be selected in cities having over three hundred thousand inhabitants,' approved March 28, 1881," was taken up, read third time and passed by the following vote:

Senator Gideon presented a remonstrance from citizens of Christian county against the submission of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Edwards offered the following amendment to the rules, which was read first time and laid over under the rules:

A motion to reconsider the vote by which a bill or resolution was ordered to be engrossed and printed, shall be in order at any time before the bill is read a third time.

Senator Walker offered the following amendment to the rules, which was read first time and laid over under the rules:

Resolved, That Rule 58 be so amended as to read as follows: RULE 58. The time of meeting of the Senate during its present session, unless otherwise ordered, shall be ten o'clock in the forenoon.

Senator Allen introduced Senate bill No. 148, entitled "An act to authorize notices of protest of notes, drafts, acceptances or any commercial paper to be sent through the United States mail," which was read first time and 100 copies ordered printed.

Senator Jacobs introduced Senate bill No. 152, entitled "An act to amend sections 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 of an act approved March 29, 1883, entitled 'An act creating a board of health for the State of Missouri, defining its duties and powers and fixing the compensation of its officers," which was read first time and 100 copies were ordered printed. Senator Edwards submitted the following report from the Committee on Engrossed Bills, which was read:

PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Engrossed Bills, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 83, entitled "An act to amend section 3514, article 5, chapter 59 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, relating to practice in civil cases," beg leave to report that they have compared the same and find it to be truly engrossed, and that the printed copies thereof furnished to the Senators are correct.

Senator Vancleve submitted the following report from the Committee on Militia, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Militia, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 111, entitled "An act to amend sections 6345 and 6355 of chapter 130, Revised Statutes of Missouri, 1879, entitled 'Of the militia,' and by adding three new sections, to be known as sections 6354a, 6357a and 6404a of said chapter, in relation to the militia organizations of the State," beg leave to report that they have duly considered the same and recommend that it do pass.

Senator Baldwin submitted the following report from the Committee on Retrenchment and Reform, which was read:

PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Retrenchment and Reform, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 76, entitled "An act to amend section 5606 of chapter 103 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, in relation to fees of sheriffs," beg leave to report that they have duly considered the same and recommend that it do pass with the accompanying amendments:
