Senate bill No. 76, entitled "An act to amend section 5606 of chapter 103 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, in relation to fees of sheriffs," was taken up.

The first amendment pending was agreed to.

Senator Baldwin offered the following amendment to the amendment, which was read first and second times and agreed to:

Strike out the word "all" and insert in lieu thereof the words "each and every."

Senator Kost offered the following amendment to the second amendment, which was read first and second times and agreed to:

Amend by striking out the figures "2 1-2" and inserting "2"
The amendment, as amended, was agreed to.

The bill, as amended, was ordered engrossed and printed.

Senator Edwards submitted the following report from the Committee on Engrossed Bills, which was read:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Engrossed Bills, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 77, entitled "An act to appropriate money for the State Agricultural and Mechanical College of Missouri," beg leave to report that they have compared the same and find it to be truly engrossed, and that the printed copies thereof furnished to the Senators are correct.

Senator Baldwin offered the following resolution, which was read, the rule suspended, and resolution adopted: .

Amend Rule 53 by inserting between the words "Governor" and "the," the words "ex presiding officers of the Senate."

The following resolution offered yesterday and read first time, was read second time and adopted:

Be it resolved, That upon the coming in of a report from the joint committee on printing, the report shall, when read, be then subject to amendment and adoption. The report, when adopted, shall immediately be communicated to the House of Representatives, when it shall again be subject to amendment. When such report shall be adopted, whether with or without amendment, it shall be the duty of the Chief Clerk of the House to cause notice of the report as adopted by the House to be promptly communicated to the Senate.

Questions of difference arising between the two Houses in relation to printing shall be adjusted in the same way as other questions of difference are adjusted.

Upon the adoption of any report by the two Houses relating to joint printing, it shall be the duty of the Secretary of the Senate to promptly certify the fact to the contractor, stating the number of copies of the matter ordered to be printed and the uses to which such copies are to be applied under the order.

Senator Bridges submitted a report from the Committee on Privileges and Elections, which was read.

By permission of the Senate the report was withdrawn.

On motion of Senator Baldwin, the Senate took a recess until 3 o'clock.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

The following communication was received from the House of Representatives through Chief Clerk Mr. Bentley, which was read:

House joint and concurrent resolution No. 12, authorizing and instructing the committee appointed by the Governor to settle with the Auditor and Treasurer, to cancel vouchers, destroy warrants and enter settlement on the books of Auditor and Treasurer;

In which the concurrence of the Senate is respectfully requested. Resolution to authorize the folder to employ an assistant, was called up and referred to the Committee on Retrenchment and Reform.

Senate bill No. 123, entitled "An act to repeal section 6846 of article 6 of chapter 145 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, 1879, entitled 'Delinquent and back taxes,' and substitute a new section therefor," was taken up, read second time and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

House bill No. 125, entitled "An act to repeal section 7073 of article 1, chapter 150 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, 'Of schools,' and to insert a new section in lieu thereof," was taken up and read first time.

Senator Parcher offered the following amendment, which was read first and second times:

Amend House bill No. 32 by inserting in line thirteen, between the words "defendant" and "money," the words "shall in good faith offer to."

Senator Yancey offered the following amendment, which was read first and second times:

Amend printed bill by striking out the following words in lines twelve, thirteen and fourteen: "But if, before judgment upon an indictment, the defendant marry the woman thus seduced, it shall be a bar to any further prosecution of the offense."

The bill and amendments were referred to the Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

House bill No. 40, entitled "An act to amend chapter 140 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, entitled Of the support of the poor,' by adding five new sections," was taken up, read second time and referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
