Senator Britts offered the following resolution, which was read and adopted:

Resolved, That 100 copies of the standing committees of the Senate be printed for the use of the Senate, the same to be printed in sheet form.

The President announced to the Senate that he had received a message from the Governor that required an executive session.

On motion of Senator Gideon, the Senate went into executive session at 12 o'clock 40 minutes.

At 12 o'clock 45 minutes the Senate resumed regular session.
Senator Farris offered the following resolution, which was read:

Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to ascertain and and report what committees of the Senate are entitled to clerks.

Senator Wood offered the following substitute, which was read: Resolved, That a committee of five be appointed by the chair to ascertain the number of clerks necessary for the standing committees of the Senate.

Senator Britts offered the following amendment, which was read: Resolved, That it shall also be the duty of the committee of five to report to the Senate the committees that will require rooms.

The substitute, as amended, was agreed to.

The President appointed as said committee, Senators Farris, Wood, Baldwin, Jacobs and McGinnis.

Senator Walker offered the following resolution, which was read and agreed to:

Resolved, That the President of the Senate be authorized to appoint a page for his own use.

On motion of Senator Bridges, the Senate adjourned until 10 o'clock to-morrow morning.

Senator Ball presented a remonstrance from citizens of Pike county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Vancleve presented a remonstrance from citizens of Ran. dolph county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Gideon presented a remonstrance from the citizens of Greene county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Gideon presented a remonstrance from citizens of Christian county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Britts presented a remonstrance from citizens of Cass county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Saltonstall presented a remonstrance from citizens of Saline county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Webster presented a remonstrance from citizens of St. Louis county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Young presented a remonstrance from citizens of Buchanan county against the submitting of a prohibitory amendment to the constitution; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senotor McGinnis offered the following resolution:

Resolved, that a committee of three be appointed by the president, which shall have power and whose duty it shall be to investigate all matters pertaining to the official conduct of those officers in the City of St. Louis who discharge functions of county officers in relation to the State, and especially that of the comptroller and the collector of said city in all matters pertaining to the collection of the State revenue within said city; and for the purpose of such investigation said committee shall have power to compel the attendance of witnesses, and the production of books, records and papers, and to that end it shall be attended by the sergeant-at-arms or by a messenger appointed by him. It may appoint a competent short hand reporter, whose compensation shall be at the usual rate for such work, and shall be paid out of the contingent fund of the senate. In like manner the necessary expenses of the committee and of the members shall be paid upon the certificate of the chairman; which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Senator Proctor offered the following resolution, which was read and adopted:

Resolved, first, That the railroad commissioners of this State be and are hereby requested to furnish the Senate with a written statement as to what legislation in their judgment is necessary to protect the various shipping interests of the people of this State, and passenger rates.

Senator Halliburton presented a petition from miners and others asking for legislation in the interest of labor; referred to Committee on Mines and Mining.

Senator Parcher moved to reconsider the vote by which Senate concurrent resolution No. 1, in relation to certain souvenirs in the Executive Mansion, introduced on yesterday by Senator Yancey, was adopted.

Senator Downing seconded the motion of Senator Parcher.

Senator Yancey moved to lay the motion to reconsider on the table. The motion to lay the motion to reconsider on the table was not agreed to by the following vote:

AYES-Senators Allen, Ball, Britts, Cresap, Edwards, Farris, Harmon, Hathaway, Proctor, Ryors, Vancleve, Walker, Wood, Yancey and Young-15.

NOES-Senators Baldwin, Bridges, Dilley, Downing, Gideon, Halliburton, Jacobs, Kelly, Kost, McGinnis, Parcher, Saltonstall, Simrall, Wear and Webster-15.

ABSENT WITH LEAVE-Senators Hunter, O'Brien and Oliver-3. Ayes and noes being equal, the president cast the deciding vote in the negative.

The motion to reconsider was then agreed to by the following vote: AYES-Senators Baldwin, Bridges, Cresap, Dilley, Downing, Edwards, Farris, Gideon, Halliburton, Jacobs, Kelly, Kost, McGinnis, Parcher, Proctor, Saltonstall, Simrall, Wear and Webster-19.

NOES-Senators Allen, Ball, Britts, Harmon, Hathaway, Ryors, Vancleve, Walker, Wood, Yancey and Young-11.

ABSENT WITH LEAVE-Senators Hunter, O'Brien and Oliver-3. On motion of Senator Baldwin, the resolution was referred to the Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds by the following vote:
