the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it. Isaiah xxx. 27–33.
For the indignation of the Lord is upon all pations, and his fury upon all their armies : he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.
Isaiah xxxiv. 2, 3. see also verses 6, 7. For it is the day of the Lord's vengeance, and the year of recompence for the controversy of Zion. And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch. It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
Isaiah xxxiv. 8, 9, 10. And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of the Lord shall be known toward bis servants, and his indignation toward his enemies. For behold the Lord will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebukes with flames of fire. fire and by sword will the Lord plead with all flesh; and the slain of the Lord shall be many.
Isaiah Ixvi, 14, 15, 16. For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but
this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
Isaiah ix.5. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Behold I will make Jeru. salem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in, that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people; all that burden them. selves with it, shall be rent in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. In that day, saith the Lord, I will smite every horse with astonishment and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the House of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the Lord of Hosts their God. In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and . the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them. And I saw the Beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
Rev. xix. 19. I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the born spake: I bebeld even till the Beast was slain, and his body destroyed,
