Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. Rev. xiv. 13

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him: For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent (i. e. rise before or have the start of) them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel and with the Trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.

SUMMARY OF THE GENERAL RESURRECTION, THE LAST JUDGMENT, AND THE WORLD TO COME.

And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat upon it, from whose face the Earth and the Heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. Revelation xx. 11.

..I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: Thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: The Judgment was set, and the books were opened. Daniel vii. 9, 10.

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened and another book was opened which is the book of life and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books according to their works. And the sea gave up the

dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them.

Revelation xx. 12, 13.

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, Then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations; and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come ye blessed of my father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me ye cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels : Matthew xxv. 31—34, 41.

* There may be some persons who shall object to the fitness of this passage of Scripture being placed among the present summary of texts: to such I would observe that the words "All nations," seem to restrict its application to any other period than that of the general resurrection and the last Judgment; for as to the time of the first resurrection we read in Rev. xx. 5. The rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished; therefore until the end of that period, How could it be said that, All nations shall be gathered before him? But furthermore, it is said of those who shall have part in the first resurrection "Blessed and holy is he," now let it be considered, How could the wicked, who are represented under the parable of the goats, be supposed included among the number of the "Blessed and holy" there mentioned? or how could they be supposed at all to be present previous to the second or general resurrection?

And they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire This is the second death And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire.

Rev. xx. 13, 14, 15.

But the fearful and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Rev. xxi. 8. See also Isaiah xxx. 33, and lxvi. 24. Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Mark ix. 44, 46, 48. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Matt. xxv. 26. But the Heavens and the Earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of Judgement and perdition of ungodly men....In the which, the Heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat,

The Lake of fire; this is the second death :-In verse 6, we read, Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power." Thus the whole power of death shall have been destroyed, so far as relates to the people of God, and the words of the Apostle will then be fulfilled, as it is written "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death: For he hath put all things under his feet." 1 Cor. xv. 26, 27.

the Earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2 Peter iii. 7, 10.

:

And all the host of Heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled away as a scroll and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. Isaiah xxxiv. 4. .. The day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat! 2 Peter iii. 12.

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for NEW HEAVENS AND A NEW EARTH wherein dwelleth righteousness 2 Pet. iii. 13.

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Cor. v. 1.

And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write, for these words are true and faithful. And I saw A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH; for the first Heaven and the first earth were passed away and there was no more sea. Rev. xxi. 5, 1.

*

And I John saw the holy city, NEW JERUSALEM, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is
