I AM tempted to prefix your respected name; partly to make it known that I am happy enough to call you my Parishioner, and that you are kind enough to call me your Friend:-but principally in the hope of recommending this little work to notice, and thus furthering the disinterested views of the Publisher, who thinks that good may be done by circulating these Addresses beyond our own Parish, and proposes to give the profits of the sale, should any accrue, to the cause of charity.

I have still another motive for making your Lordship a party in this Publication; it is to secure your prayers for His blessing upon it,

"Whose frown can disappoint the proudest strain : Whose approbation prosper-even mine."

PARISHIONERS OF IVER.

IN publishing in their present form the Annual Addresses of our beloved and revered Father, the late Minister of Iver, we have been influenced-partly, by a wish expressed by several friends, that these successive New Year's tokens might be gathered together into one volume-partly, by a desire that we might further the object which the originator of this mode of Pastoral admoninition had in view-the glory of God in the salvation of sinners.

We feel that force, weight, and permanence will thus be given to the important truths and lessons, which these detached and varied writings contain; and we cannot but cherish the hope, that this little book will,
