perfect in materialization.

Any flaw found in this finished article must have existed in the original. One is cause and the other effect.

In just this manner are you each building not only the beautiful picture or book which you see (image) as complete before you begin it, but your personal structure and health are becoming more and more permanent by the thought you think, by the image you create and by the understanding you have of life.

If life is a series of impulses-states of consciousness-let us invite new and happy mental images in times of weariness and discord, that a wealth of wholesome forces which promote harmony and kindle energy may pervade our being.

In the higher Thought practices for the healing and betterment of human life, one school will resort to energizing the faith principle, and another holds that vibrations sent out with the proper thought or feeling will center where they are directed and produce desired results. And yet another order awakens the responsive chord by reiterated belief, voiced or thought in unity-like the volume of a choral society or Niagara unbound-that "all is Good and there is but one Good"-one Mind. All of these produce a mental condition or image of that which they are trying to express, and actual experience goes to show that the imaging faculty of the mind is the real instrument through the exercise of which the desired results are obtained or healing is performed. Sometimes we must eradicate a previously formed image and supplant a new. With each class of thinkers its own accepted theory constitutes the basis of its thought, and each thought forms its own corresponding image during the process. The "theory" serves as a starting point for

more or less definite thought action, which inevitably results in the formation of mental images, regardless of whether the thinker recognizes the fact or not.

There is no thought without its accompanying image.

This is the permanent law of mental action, and none can escape its results. A strong faith in some particular method (called by any name you choose) will only put this law into operation in the mind and produce its results through the natural subconscious reproduction of the image.

We seek to divest these phenomena of all claim to mysticism or miracle, and receive them as facts of natural law, which is today employed in uplifting and harmonizing purposes, even though not recognized fully by the majority.

Note-Dr. James H. Hyslop, President S. P. R., stated at the Unitarian Club dinner, April 4, 1913, that "the Society for Psychical Research had scientific demonstration in evidence of man's continuity of life after death."

A cheerful outlook on life, combined with patience and the heart of a little child, are the chiefest assets. Do not allow yourself to become discouraged by fools and selfish men. Keep fit by work and plenty of it. But enjoy your work. Be the master of it, and do not permit it to master you, for then it will become labor and not life saving, invigorating work, the foe of ennui.

Oh, keeper of the little dreams,

Keep one for me, I pray. All quiet in the starry gleams

Of rest beyond the day, A dream of music I have heard, A dream of love I knew, When life was like a singing bird

And hearts were fresh with dew.

The Benefit of Our Religion

Lecture Delivered by Bishop Oliver C. Sabin. Before the Evangelical Christian Science Church, Washington, D. C., April 20, 1913.

HE text or subject of our lecture this morning is 'The Benefit of Our Religion."

There should be only one religion, if we mean by religion a system by which we go to God Almighty to thank Him for what we receive and ask Him for what we want. One religion should be sufficient, for that ought to be the All in All, because God is All, and if you receive anything you have to go to God-if we receive anything that is good -because every good and perfect gift comes from the Father.

It is true that all systems of religion, SO far as my research has informed me, have as an accompaniment, as we might term it, reward and punishment, or reward or punishment. You warded for the good

are re

was ever fought on the earth. This was done in various ways-generally by one church corraling all parishioners, making them believe that whatever comes down to them was from God Almighty; and, therefore, of course, there could be but one road, and the other fellow, who practiced some other system, was sup

Ours is a plain, simple road through life and giving you success in everything, making you master instead of slave, freeing you from all fetters of disease, freeing you from everything that worries you. All you have to do is to ask, seek and knock, in accordance with intelligence, and you will get what you want. There can be no failure, unless it is within your own environment. This is our religion, and I tell you it is a better religion than the fellow has who goes dodging through life in fear of hell-fire and brimstone.

Take this religion with you, practice it, live right with God. If there is anything you do not understand, and it worries you, commit your ways unto the Lord and trust, and He will bring it to pass. He will bring it righttrust. You have nothing to do with the answering of the prayer-simply trust.

you do, and you are punished for the evils you commit, and this good and this evil are measured by the dogma of the particular church that doles it out.

Religion, per se, as we know it in history, is the cause of and it was the motive power that carried on ninetynine-cne-hundredths of every war that

posed to be eradicated. In some places they would call him a heretic and in other places something else. These religions were always ready to punish the person who did not believe as its adherents did.

Now, as I have said, there should be but one religion, and that the religion that to God Almighty, asks for what

comes

you want and thanks

Him for what you get. There is but one God. Then why should there be more than one road to Him? I am not here holding up the idea that anybody who does not follow this religion I am trying to teach is going to hell, for I do not believe there is any such place as hell. I believe that for every possible sowing you ever sowed you are going to reap a crop of similar character, and I believe you will never get rid of one sin

ever committed until you have had a chance to make reparation.

Now, the redemption of Christ meant this-it was to save man from his sins. Say that I have been committing sin all of my life. I cannot here and now go all over the world nearly and make right where I have done wrong. That would be an impossibility. But the time will come somewhere, somehow, that we will have the opportunity to make right every wrong we ever committed. Until such time, the knowledge of the truth that Christ gave to us gives us peace, gives us quiet, gives us the knowledge within ourselves that we are going to be enabled to reap, in the sweet by and by, the crop of good that we have sown.

There can never be any lapses. This religion of ours is not a license for crime, it is not a license for anything but the highest quality of morals. You must follow along the lines as Jesus taught as nearly as you can, and remember always that the great fundamental principle which He taught us to practice, and which you must practice, was to love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. When you get strong enough and broad enough and big enough to love your brother as yourself and bring that down into actual practice in life, I tell you you can move the mountains, you can do anything. It is the great, broad acreage of right that we stand upon, and that is the foundation of all true religion-love God and love your brother. Jesus said that you cannot love God, whom you have not seen, if you do not love your brother, whom you have

seen.

This Being called God, as we understand, is something different from the ordinary thought. I was taught to believe that God was a personage sitting

on a throne. I was taught to believe that hell was a reality. In our religion of today we eliminate the thought that God is a person, but hold that He is a personality whom we call God, and it is wonderful when we come to examine into the broadness of it. God is Spirit; Spirit is everything, Omnipresent, everywhere intelligence. God is Life; Life is everywhere; you see it in the bush, in the birds, in the beasts of the field and the fishes of the sea; you see it circling with the worlds, making them move in their orbits; you see it in the zephyrs that blow around us everywhere-everywhere Life, God. It makes the blood in your veins and mine, and the same God that moves you moves me. There is but one life, because there is but one God.

If God had life, like one of us, and should die, life, would be greater than God; therefore God IS LIFE-He is the IT, the ESSENCE; He is LOVE; He is GOOD. We do not say that God's LOVE comes down upon us, but GODLove. There is no possessive case in His LOVE. He has no love, but IS LOVE, and it is so with all the great cardinal principles or characteristics of the Deity.

He is the power and the only power that moves ALL, and He is the only power that has wisdom, that controls EVERYTHING. God is All in All and through All. We are part and parcel of God Almighty LIFE, GOOD, LOVE, POWER and WISDOM; therefore, when Paul told the Athenians when they had him arrested and brought to the Forum, and made to declare what kind of a religion he had been teaching, "Him that you ignorantly worship I declare unto you." The Athenians had a greater multiplicity of gods than any other people, and had erected a temple to "The Unknown God," whom Paul

Isaid he had come to declare unto them. So Paul taught them the religion of Jesus Christ, the oneness of God, and that is what our religion is. It is a religion that fills All in All and through All; there is no lack; it gives you prosperity through your entire life, makes everything you touch a success, and there is no such thing as failure. God Almighty wisdom controls you in all your undertakings. God Almighty power gives you strength to do all and to practice all and to enjoy all, and love more abundantly fills you in all the undertakings in which you are interested. Ours is a religion that leads you along the pathway of life and makes your failures cease and causes success to perch upon your banner. It is a religion that is worth something.

Ours is a plain, simple road through life, giving you success in everything, making you master instead of slave, freeing you from all fetters of disease, freeing you from everything that worries you. All you have to do is to ask, seek and knock in accordance with intelligence, and you will get what you want. There can be no failure unless it is within your own environment. This is our religion, and I tell you it is a better religion than the fellow has who goes dodging through life in fear of hell-fire and brimstone.

Take this religion with you-practice it, live right with God. If there is anything you do not understand, and it worries you, commit your ways unto the Lord and trust, and He will bring it to pass; He will bring it right-trust. You have nothing to do with the answering of the prayer-simply trust.

The great principle upon which our church is based is: Love God and love your brother, and when you want any

thing go to God Almighty, become as a little child, and then let Him do the answering of the prayer. In other words, be simple-hearted, filled with love, not only love for God, but love for all; let your mind be big enough and strong enough and wide enough to take in the whole course of the human family. You do not have to love a person who steals a horse because he steals the horse. That would be wrong; you do not have to love a man for the commission of crime, but you love the image and likeness of God who is there, and you declare that he cannot do those things, and you cannot go around hating him. You are not required to love crime, and you hate crime. There is nothing in common with you that is not of the highest and purest and most perfect love.

Remember that this is the road and the only way to perfect harmony, perfect success and perfect love. Everything belongs to you. You are God Almighty's child and you have all; therefore get in the sunshine. All belongs to you, and you do not have to steal anything. All belongs to you; you get in the sunshine and take all you want, yet there is no diminution, there is always a great abundance.
