and all in authority, for all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, for ourselves, for all children, especially those of this family, for all absent friends, for the poor and afflicted, for our enemies and those in error, and for all sorts and conditions of men. Send us help from thy holy place. And evermore mightily defend us. Be unto us, O Lord, a strong tower, From the face of our enemies. Teach us thy ways, O Lord,

And lead us in thy paths.

Our help is in the name of the Lord.

Who hath made heaven and earth.

O Lord, hear our prayer.

And let our cry come unto thee.

Then the Collect for the Day, and afterwards the
Collects following.

RANT, O Lord, that as we are baptized into

GRAN

the death of thy blessed Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, so by continual mortifying our corrupt affections we may be buried with him; and that through the grave, and gate of death, we may pass to our joyful resurrection; for his merits, who died, and was buried, and rose again for us, thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Unity.

O ALMIGHTY God, who hast built thy Church

upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the head cornerstone; Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their doctrine, that we may be made an holy temple acceptable unto thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Help.

PREVENT us, O Lord, in all our doings with thy most gracious favour, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

If there are any Prayers or Thanksgivings proper for the Day, they may be inserted here, or substituted for one or more of those that follow. Prayers for Children &c., are to be found in the Second Part.

For the Strength of the Spirit.

GRANT that all carnal affections may die in us, and that all things belonging to the Spirit may live and grow in us. Amen.

GRANT that we may have power and strength

to have victory, and to triumph, against the devil, the world, and the flesh. Amen.

GR

RANT that we, and all who are dedicated to thee, may also be endued with heavenly virtues, and everlastingly rewarded, through thy mercy, O blessed Lord God, who dost live, and govern all things, world without end.

THE THANKSGIVINGS.

Amen.

Let us praise the name of the Lord.
And offer unto God thanksgivings.
Unto thee do we give thanks, O Lord.
Yea, unto thee, O God, do we give thanks.

WE yield thee hearty thanks, most merciful

Father, that it hath pleased thee to regene

rate us with thy Holy Spirit, to receive us for

thine own children by adoption, and to incorporate us into thy holy Church. And humbly we beseech thee to grant, that we being dead unto sin, and living unto righteousness, and being buried with Christ in his death, may crucify the old man and utterly abolish the whole body of sin, and that, as we are made partakers of the death of thy Son, we may also be partakers of his resurrection; so that finally, with the residue of thy holy Church, we may be inheritors of thine everlasting kingdom; through Christ our Lord. Praised be the Lord daily.

Even the God who helpeth us.
And poureth his benefits upon us.

AI

Concluding Prayer.

Amen.

LMIGHTY God, who hast promised to hear the petitions of them that ask in thy Son's Name; We beseech thee mercifully to incline thine ears to us that have made now our prayers and supplications unto thee; and grant, that those things, which we have faithfully asked according to thy will, may effectually be obtained, to the relief of our necessity, and to the setting forth of thy glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE

Benedictory Prayer.

HE blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be amongst us, and remain with us always. Amen.

Evening Prayer.

At the beginning of Evening Prayer, the Master may read the following Sentences, unless there are any proper for the Day.

HEARD a voice from heaven, saying unto me, Write, From henceforth blessed are the dead which die in the Lord : even so saith the Spirit; for they rest from their labours. (Burial.)

WH

HEN this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality; then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O Death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be we stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as we know that our labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Then the General Confession, to be said by the whole

family, kneeling.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father;

We

have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done ; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess

their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

GRANT

For Pardon.

RANT we beseech thee, merciful Lord, to thy faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Then the Lord's Prayer, to be said by all.

OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be

thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. Amen.

us.

Then may be said,

Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
From this time forth for evermore.

¶Then all standing, a Psalmo, as in Divine Service. Or if no
Psalm is said, the Doxology may follow here.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be; world without end. Amen.
