26 Give me my wives and my chil. dren, for whom I have ferved thee, and let me go: for thou knoweft my fervice which I have done thee.

27 And Laban faid unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience, that the LORD hath bleffed me for thy fake.

28 And he faid, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.

29 And he faid unto him, Thou knoweft how I have ferved thee, and how thy cattel was with me.

30 For it was little which thou hadft before I came, and it is now increafed unto a multitude; and the LORD hath bleffed thee fince my coming and now when hall I provide for mine own house alfo? 31 And he faid, What shall I give thee? And Jacob faid, Thou shalt not give me any thing, if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock: 32 I will pafs through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the fpeckled and fported cattel, and all the brown cattel among the fheep, and the spotted, and fpeckled among the goats and of fuch fhall be my hire.

33 So fhall my righteoufnefs anfwer for me in time to come, when it fhall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not fpeckled and fpotted amongft the goats, and brown amongst the fheep, that shall be accounted ftolen with me.

34 And Laban faid, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.

35 And he removed that day the hegoats that were ring ftraked, and fporzed, and allthe fhe goats that were fpeckled and fpotted, and every one that had fome white in it, and all the brown among the fheep, and gave them into the hands of his fons.

36 And he fet three days journey betwixt himself and Jacob; and Jacob fed the reft of Labans flocks.

37 And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hafel and chefnut-tree and pilled white ftrakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

38 And he fet the rods which he had

pilled before the flocks in the gutters the watering-troughs, when the flo came to drink, that they should conce when they came to drink.

39 And the flocks conceived before rods, and brought forth cattel ring f ked, fpeckled and fpotted,

40 And Jacob did feparate the lan and fet the faces of the flocks toward ring-itraked, and all the brown in flock of Leban: and he put his c flocks by themfelves, and put them unto Labans cattel.

41 And it came to pafs whenfoever ftronger cattel did conceive, that Ja laid the rods before the eyes of the ca in the gutters, that they might conce among the rods.

42 But when the cattel were feeble, put them not in: fo the feebler were bans, and the ftronger Jacobs.

2 And Jacob beheld the countena of Laban, and behold, it was not tow him as before.

3 And the LORD faid unto Jacob, turn unto the land of thy fathers, and thy kindred, and I will be with thee

4 And Jacob fent and called Rachel Leah to the field unto his flock,

s And faid unto them, I fee your thers countenance, that it is not tow me as before: but the God of my fa hath been with me.

6 And ye know that with all my p er I have ferved your father.

7 And your father hath deceived and changed my wages ten times : God fuffered him not to hurt me.

8 If he faid thus, the fpeckled fhal thy wages, then all the cartel bare fp led: and if he faid thus, the ring ftra thall be thy hire; then bare all the c ring ftraked.

9 Thus God hath taken away the c of your father, and given them to me

io And it came to pafs at the time the cattel conceived, that I lifted up i eyes, and faw in a dream, and behold rams which leaped upon the cattel ring-ftreked, fpeckled and grified.

It And the angel of God (pake me in a dream, Jaying, Jacob: And I Here am I.

12 And he faid, Lift up now t

eyes and fee, all the rams which leap upon the cattel are ring ftraked, fpeck led, and grifled: for I have feen all that Laban doeth unto thee.

13 I am the God of Beth-el, where thau ancintedft the pillar, and where hy vowedit a vow unto me: now efe, get thee out from this land, and retum unto the land of thy kindred.

14 And Rachel and Leah anfwered, and faid unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our fathers houfe? Is Are we no: counted of him firan gers? for he hath fold us, and hath quite devoured alfo our money.

16 For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our childrens : now then whatsoever God hath faid unto thee, do.

17¶Then Jacob rose up, and set his fans and his wives upon camels.

18 And he carried away all his cattel, and all his goods which he had gotten, the cattel of his getting, which he had gotten in Padan-aram; for to go to Ifaac his father in the lend of Canaan. 19 And Laban went to hear his fheep: and Rachel had ftolen the images that were her fathers.

20 And Jacob ftole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.

at So he filed with all that he had, and he role up, and paffed over the river, and fet his face toward the mount Gilead.

22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

23 And he took his brethren with him, and purfued after him feven days journey, and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou fpeak not to Jacob either good or bad.

25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

26 And Laban said to Jacob, What haft thou done, that thou haft ftolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the (word?

27 Wherefore didft thou flee away fecretly, and feal away from me? and didft not tell me, that I might have fent thee away with mirth, and with fongs, with tabret, and with harp?

28 And haft not fuffered me to kiss my fons and my daughters? thou haft now done foolishly in fo doing,

29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt but the God of your father

from Laban, fpake unto me yefternight, faying, Take thou heed that thou fpeak not to Jacob either good or bad.

30 And now though thou wouldst needs be gone, becaufe thou fore longedit af ter thy fathers houfe; yet wherefore haft thou ftolen my geds?

31 And Jacob anfwered and faid to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I faid, Peradventure thou wouldst take by force thy daughters from me.

32 With whomfoever thou findeft thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren difcern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee: for Jacob knew not that Rachel had ftolen them.

33 And Laban went into Jacobs tent, and into Leahs tent, and into the two maid-fervants tent, but he found them not. Then went he out of Leahs tent, and entred into Rachels tent.

34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camels furniture and fat upon them and Laban fearched all the tent, but found them not.

35 And the faid to her father, Let it not ditpleafe my lord, that I cannot rife up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me: and he fearched, but found not the images.

36 And Jacob was wrath, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and faid to Laban, Whats my trefpafs? what is my fin, that thou haft lo hotly purfued after me?

37 Whereas thou haft fearched all my ftuff, what haft thou found of all xhs houshold-ftuff? fet it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge betwixt us both.

38 Thefe twenty years have I been with thee; thy ews and thy fhe-goats have not caft their young, and the rams of thy flock have I not eaten.

39 That which was torn of beafts, 1 brought not unto thee, I bare the lots of it, of my hand did ft thou require it, whe ther ftolen by day, or ftolen by night.

40 Thus I was, in the day the drought confumed me, and the froft by night, and my fleep departed from mine eyes.

41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy houfe, I ferved thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and fix years for thy cattel and thou haft changed my wages ten times.

42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Ifaac had been with me, furely thou hadft fent me away now empty: God hath feen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yefternight.

43

And Laban answered, and faid

unto Jacob, Thefe daughters are my daugh- and I have fent to tell my lord, tha ters, and thefe children are my children, may find grace in thy fight.

and thefe catrel are my cattel, and all that 6 And the meffengers returned thou fee ft is mine: and what can I do this Jacob, faying, We came to thy broth day unto the fe my daughters, or unto Efau, and alfo he cometh to meet the their children which they have born? and four hundred men with him. 44 Now therefore, come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou, and let it be for a witnefs between me and thee. 45 And Jacob took a ftone, and fet it up for a pillar.

46 And Jacob faid unto his brethren, Gather ftones, and they took ftones, and made an heap and they did eat there upon the heap.

47 And Laban called it Jegar-faha dutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.

48 And Laban faid, This heap is a witnefs between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed:

49 And Mizpah; for he faid, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are abfent one from another.

so If thou shalt aff &t my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives be fides my daughters, no man is with us; See, God is witnefs betwixt me and thee.

s And Laban faid to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have caft betwixt me and thee;

52 This heap be witness, and this pillar be witnefs, that I will not pafs over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pals over this heap, and this pillar unto me for harm.

53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father judge betwixt us. And Jacob fware by the fear of his father Ifaac.

$4 Then Jacob offered facrifice upon the mount, and calied his brethren to eat bread and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

55 And early in the morning Laban role up, and killed his fons and his daughters, and ble ffed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

4 And he commanded them, faying, Thus shall ye fpeak unto my lord Efau, Thy fervant Jacob faith thus, I have fojourned with Laban, and ftayed there until now.

And I have oxen, and affes, flocks, men-fervants, and women-fervants:

8 And faid, If Efau come to the or company and fmite it, then the oth company which is left fhall efcape.

9 And Jacob faid, O God of my f ther Abraham, and God of my father If ac, the LORD which faidft unto me, R turn unto thy country, and to thy kin dred, and I will deal well with thee:

Io I am not worthy of the leaft of a the mercies, and of all the truth, whic thou haft fhewed unto thy fervant fo with my ftaff I paffed over this Jordan and now I am become two bands.

11 Deliver me, I pray thee, from th hand of my brother, from the hand o Efau: for I fear him, left he will com and fmite me, and the mother with the children.

12 And thou faidft, I will furely do thee good, and make thy feed as the fand of the fea, which cannot be numbre for multitude.

13 And he lodged there that fame night, and took of that which came to his hand, a prefent for Efau his brother,

14 Two hundred the-goats and twenty he-goats, two hundred ews and twenty rams,

15 Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine and ten bulls, twenty the affes and ten foles.

16 And he delivered them into the hand of his fervants, every drove by themfelves, and faid unto his fervants, Pafs over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove.

17 And he commanded the foremost, faying, When Efau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, faying, Whofe art thou? and whither goeft thou? and whofe are thefe before thee?

18 Then thou shalt fay, They be thy fervant Jacobs ; it is a prefent fent unto my lord Efau and behold alfo he is behind us.

19 And fo commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, faying, On this manner fhall you fpeak unto Efau, when you find him.

21 So went the prefent over before him and himself lodged that night in the company.

22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two women fervants and his eleven fons, and paffed over the ford Jabbok.

23 And he took them, and fent them over the brook, and fent over that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone: and there wreftled a man with him, until the breaking of the day.

25 And when he faw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh: and the hollow of Jacobs thigh was out of joynt, as he wreftled with him.

26 And he faid, Let me go, for the day breaketh: And he faid, I will not let thee go except thou blefs me.

27 And he faid unto him, What is thy name? And he faid, Jacob.

28 And he faid, Thy name fhall be called no more Jacob, but Ifrael: for as a prince haft thou power with God and with men, and haft prevailed.

29 And Jacob asked him, and faid, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name: And he faid, Wherefore is it, that thou doft ask after my name? and he bleffed him there.

30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have feen God face to face, and my life is preferved.

31 And as he paffed over Penuel the fan rofe upon him, and he halted upon hs thigh.

32 Therefore the children of Ifrael eat not of the finew which fhrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: becaufe he touched the hollow of Jacobs thigh, in the finew that fhrank.

3 And he paffed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground feven times, until he came near to his brother.

4 And Efau ran to meet him, and em

6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

7 And Leah alfo with her children came near, and bo ved themselves; and after came Jofeph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

8 And he faid, What meaneft thou by all this drove, which I met? And he faid,Thefe are to find grace in the fight of my lord." 9 And Efau faid, I have enough, my brother, keep that thou haft unto thy felf.

Io And Jacob faid, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy fight, then receive my prefent at my hand for therefore I have feen thy face, as though I had feen the face of God, and thou wast pleafed with me.

12 And he faid, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee

13 And he faid unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young dre with me; and if men fhould overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.

15 And Efau faid, Let me now leave with thee fome of the folk that are with me: And he faid, What needeth it? Let me find grace in the fight of my lord.

16 So Efau returned that day on his way unto Seir.

17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an houfe, and made booth; for his cattel: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
