28 For there is a fire gone out of Hefhbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath confumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.

29 Wo to thee, Moab, thou art undone, O people of Chemoth: he hath given his fons that efcaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites. 30 We have shot at them; Hefhbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them wafte even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.

Thus Ifrael dwelt in the land of

the Amorites.

13 And Balaam rofe up in the mor and faid unto the princes of Balak, you into your land: for the LORD ref to give me leave to go with you.

14 And the princes of Moab rof and they went unto Balak, and faid, laam refufeth to come with us.

15 And Balak fent yet again pri mo, and more honourable than they.

5 He fent meffengers therefore unto Balaam the fon of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, faying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me.

6 Come now therefore, I pray thee,curfe me this people, for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may fmite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou bleffeft,is bleffed, and he whom thou curfeft, is curfed.

7 And the elders of Moab, and the els of Midian departed, with the rewards vination in their hand, and they came

17 For I will promote thee unto great honour, and I will do whatfo thou fayeft unto me: Come therefor pray thee, curfe me this people.

18 And Balaam answered and faid the fervants of Balek, If Balak would me his houfe full of filver and gold, I hot go beyond the word of the LORD God, to do lefs or more..

29 And Balaam faid unto the afs, Be afethou haft mocked me: I would there ere a fword in mine hand, for now ould I kill thee.

30 And the afs faid unto Balaam, Am I thine afs, upon which thou haft ridnever fince I was thine, unto this day? as ever wont to do fo unto thee? And e faid, Nay.

31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of alaam, and he faw the angel of the ORD ftanding in the way, and his fword fawn in his hand: and he bowed down head, and fell flat on his face.

32 And the angel of the LORD faid unhim, Wherefore haft thou fmicten thine thefe three times? behold, I went out swithftand thee, because thy way is pererfe before me.

13 And the afs faw me, and turned om me thefe three times: unlefs the had arned from me, furely now alfo I had lain thee, and faved her alive.

34 And Balaam faid unto the angel of LORD, I have finned; for I knew not a thou ftoodeft in the way against me: therefore if it difpleafe thee, I will et me back again.

Nd Balaam faid unto Balak, Build me here feven altars, and prepare me here feven oxen, and feven rams.

2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

3 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Stand by thy burns offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatfoever he fheweth me,I will tell thee. And he went to an high place."

4 And God met Balaam, and he faid unto him, I have prepared feven altars, and I have offered upon every alcar a bullock and a ram.

5 And the LORD put a word in Balaams mouth, and faid, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt fpeak.

6 And he returned unto him, and lo, he ftood by his burnt-facrifice, he and all the princes of Moab.

7 And he took up his parable, and faid, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the eaft, faying, Come, curfe me Jacob, and come, defie Ifrael.

8 How fhall I curfe, whom God hath not curfed? or how fhall I defie, whom the LORD hath not defied?

9 For from the top of the rocks I fee him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people fhall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

10 Who can count the duft of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Ira el? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my laft end be like his.

11 And Balak faid unto Balaam, What haft thou done unto me? I took thee to curfe mine enemies, and behold, thou haft bleffed them altogether.

23 Surely there is no enchantment gainst Jacob, neither is there any divination against Ifrael: according to this time it fhall be faid of Jacob, and of If rael, What hath God wrought!

24 Behold, the people thall rife up as a great lion, and lift up himtelf as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the flain. 25 And Balak faid unto Balaam, Neither curfe them at all, nor blefs them at all.

26 But Balaam anfwered and faid unto Balak, Told not I thee, faying, All that the LORD fpeaketh, that I muft do?

27 And Balak faid unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place, peradventure it will pleafe God, that thou mayeft curfe me them from thence.

28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward JeThimon.

29 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Build me here feven altars, and prepare me here feven bullocks, and feven rams.

30 And Balak did as Balaam had faid, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

14 Now the name of the Ifraelite that was flain, even that was flain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri the fon of Sa lu, a prince of a chief houfe among the Simeonites.
