5 Then let mine enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample down my life to the ground, and lay mine honour in the dust.

6 Arise, O JEHOVAH! in thine indignation; stand up against the outrages of mine enemies, and exert thyself to pass upon them the sentence which thou hast decreed.

7 Then will the assembly of the people come about thee; for their sakes, therefore, be thou seated on thy tribunal on high. JEHOVAH Will do justice to his people.

8 Judge me, O JEHOVAH ! according to my righteousness; and reward me according to mine innocency.

9 Let the injustice of the wicked come to an end; but do thou establish the righte

ous:

10 For thou art a righteous GOD; searcher of the heart and reins.

II JEHOVAH, who preserveth the upright of heart, is my refuge: a GOD, who judgeth justly, and is never wroth without

cause.

12 But for the unrepentant he will whet his sword; he will bend and prepare his bow:

13 He will prepare for him the instruments of death; and temper his shafts with burning coals.

14

Lo! the wicked-one hath conceived iniquity, and is pregnant with oppression; but he shall bring forth disappointment.

15 He hath dug a pit and sunk it deep; but shall fall into the destruction he hath prepared for others :

16 His iniquity shall return on his own head; and his violence shall fall on his

Own crown.

-17 Therefore I will give thanks unto JEHOVAH for his justice; and I will praise the name of JEHOVAH, most high.

PSALM VIII.

In the Evening prayer, p. 27.

PSALM IX.

1 WILL praise thee, O JEHOVAH ! with my whole heart; I will recount all thy wonderful deeds.

2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee; I

will sing praise unto thy name, o thou most high!

3 Because mine enemies are put to flight; and are fallen and perished in thy presence. 4 For thou hast maintained my righteous cause sitting upon thy throne, thou hast judged righteously:

5 Thou hast reproved the nations, and destroyed the wicked; thou hast effaced their name for ever:

6 Complete desolation has consumed the enemy; their cities thou hast destroyed, and the remembrance of them is perished with them.

7 But JEHOVAH endureth for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment; 8 That he may judge the world with justice; and adininister equity unto the peoples.

9 JEHOVAH is a refuge for the oppressed; even a refuge in time of trouble:

10 They who acknowledge thy name shall place their trust in thee; for thou never forsakest those who seek thee.

11 O praise JEHOVAH, who dwelleth in Zion; celebrate his deeds among the people:

12 For he who maketh inquiry after bloodshed, remembereth them; and forgetteth not the complaints of the afflicted.

13 Have compassion on me, O JEHOVAH! consider the affliction I suffer from those who hate me, and raise me from the gates of death:

14 That I may rehearse all thy praises in the gates of the city of Zion; and rejoice in being saved by thee.

15 The nations are sunk into the pit which they made; in the snare which they laid, their own feet are entangled.

16 The LORD is made known by the judgment which he executeth; the wicked is ensnared in the work of his own hands. 17 The wicked shall hasten to the grave, and all the nations unmindful of GOD. 18 For the needy shall not be forgotten for ever; nor the expectation of the afflicted be disappointed for ever.

19 Arise, O JEHOVAH! let not man prevail; let the nations be judged by thee alone:

20 Make them to reverence thee, o JEHOVAH! that the nations may know that they are but men.

PSALM

PSALM X.

WHY standest thou aloof, O JEHOVAH! and concealest thyself in the time of distress?

2 The wicked, through pride, persecuteth the distressed. Let persecutors be caught in the devices which they have contrived

3 The wicked boasteth of obtaining his heart's desire; and the rapacious calleth himself blessed.

4 The wicked despiseth JEHOVAH ; through contempt, he seeketh him not: neither is GOD in any of his thoughts, and kis ways are always perverse.

5 Thy judginents, O JEHOVAH ! are far above his sight, and therefore despiseth he all his enemies.

6 He saith in his heart; -"I shall never be cast down; no harm shall happen unto me.'

7 His mouth is full of cursing, deceit and fraud; under his tongue are ungodliness and vanity.

8 He sitteth in the ambushment of

hedges;
