20 Affliction cutteth short my strength in the journey of life, and shorteneth my days:

21 But I say, o my GOD! destroy me not in the midst of mine age; for thy years endure through all generations.

22 Thou art he who from the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth and the heavens are the work of thine hands:

23 They may perish, but thou shalt endure; they may be worn out like a garment, but like a vesture thou canst renew them :

24 Yet, though they should be changed, thou art the same, and thy years shall

never come to an end.

25 Let, therefore, the sons of thy servants continue in the land; and let their posterity be established in thy presence.

PSALM CIII.

In the Morning prayer, p. 47.

PSALM CIV.

PRAISE JEHOVAH! o my soul! O JEHOVAH! my GOD! thou art transcendently

great;

great; thou art clothed with dignity and majesty :

2 Thou arrayest thyself with light, as with a garment; and spreadest out the heavens as a tent-covering:

3 Thou layest the beams of thine upper chambers in the heavens; thou makest the clouds thy chariot, and fliest on the wings of the wind:

4 Thou makest thy messengers winds; and thy ministers a flaine of fire.

5 Praise him who fixed the earth on its foundation; it shall never be removed. 6 The abyss, like a garment, covered it at first; for the waters stood above the

mountains:

7 But, at thy rebuke, O Jehovah! they dispersed; at the sound of thy thunder, they instantly hurried away:

8 They ascended the mountains, they descended the valleys, to the place thou hadst appointed for them:

9 They do not pass the limit thou hast prescribed; neither can they return to deluge the earth.

10 Praise him, who sendeth springs

into the valleys, which flow between the mountains in torrents :

11 That every beast of the field may drink; and the wild asses may allay their thirst:

12 The fowl of the air also may dwell near them; and sing among the branches.

13 Praise him, who watereth the mountains from his chambers, that the earth may be full of the fruits of his works:

14 Making grass to grow for the beasts of the field, and herbs for the service of

man:

15 By bringing forth food from the earth, and wine which cheereth the heart, and enliveneth the countenance of man; and bread which sustaineth the heart of

man.

16 The trees of JEHOVAH are nourished; even the cedars of Lebanon which he planted:

17 In which the birds build their nests; the fir-trees are the dwelling of the stork.

18 The steep mountains are a refuge for the wild goats; and cragged rocks for the field-mice.

19 Praise him, who made the moọn for

a certain

a certain season; and also the sun, which knoweth its time of setting.

20 When thou, O JEHOVAH! bringest on darkness, it is night, during which all the beasts of the forest prowl abroad :

21 The lions are roaring for seeking their food.

prey, and

22 When the sun ariseth, they retire, and lay themselves down in their dens :

23 Then man goeth forth to his work and to his labour, until the evening.

24 How manifold, O JEHOVAH! are thy works; with wisdom thou hast made them all; the earth is full of thy riches:

25 So, likewise, the great and wide sea, in which are things moving without number; living creatures both small and great.

26 There sail the ships; and there is that Leviathan, whom thou didst make to sport himself in it.

27 All these depend on thee, O JEHOVAH! for the giving of their food in its

season.

28 When thou givest it to them, they gather it; when thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

29 When thou hidest thy countenance,

they

they quickly perish; when thou takest away their breath, they expire, and return to their dust.

30% When thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created; and thus thou renewest the face of the earth.

31 The glory of JEHOVAH shall endure for ever; JEHOVAH shall rejoice in his works:

32 Who, but looketh on the earth, and it trembleth; who, but toucheth the mountains, and they smoke.

33 I will sing unto JEHOVAH, as long as I live; I will praise my GOD, while I have my being.

34 My meditation shall be pleasing unto him; and I will rejoice in JEHOVAH:

35 While the sinners shall be consumed from the earth, and of the wicked, there shall be none remaining. Praise thou JEHOVAH, O my soul! praise JEHovah.
