Journal of yesterday read and approved.

Senator Terry introduced Senate bill No. 56, entitled An act to prevent the sale of or exchange of unwholesome milk; read first time.

Senator Phelan introduced Senate bill No. 57, entitled An act for the classification of cities and towns; read first time.

Senator Mosby introduced Senate bill No. 58, entitled An act in relation to sheriff's fees in transporting convicts to the Penitentiary; read first time.

Senator Murray introduced Senate bill No. 59, entitled An act to amend section 3 of chapter 187 of the General Statutes; read first time.

The second reading of bills being in order, Senate bill No. 55, was read and referred to Committee on Ways and Means, and 50 copies ordered printed.

Joint and concurrent resolution No. 11, was read and referred to Committee on Printing, and 50 copies ordered printed.

Senator Read, on leave, introduced Senate bill No. 60, entitled An act to provide for the transfer of the records and archives from the office of Register of Lands, and from the office of Recorder of Land Titles in Missouri, to the office of Secretary of State, and to repeal chapter 19 of the General Statutes, entitled "Register of Lands;" read first time.

Senator Rubey, from Committee on Printing, submitted the fol lowing report:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Printing, to whom was referred resolution in relation to publishing official report of proceedings, beg leave to report that we have obtained the following proposition from Messrs. Regan & Carter, to-wit: "That they will print in Tribune the official report of Senate and House, and furnish 200 copies of the Tribune at four cents per copy, or $48.00 per week of six days. Additional copies above 200 at 2 cents each." Action of Senate is requested by committee.

Senator Phelan moved to reconsider motion making Senate concurrent resolution No. 4 the special order for Monday at 2 o'clock. Carried

Joint and concurrent resolution No. 4 was then taken up, and the question being upon the motion of Senator Seay that the Senate disagree to House amendment; the motion lost by the following vote:

AYES-None.

NOES-Senators Abney, Ake, Biggs, Claiborne, Coleman, Edwards of St. Charles, Edwards of Lafayette, Flood, Hudson, Major, Morrisson, Mosby, Murray, Newberry, Paxton, Perkins, Phelan, Read, Rubey, Shelby, Terry, Wallace, Wear, Wight and Young-25.

ABSENT-Senators Seay and Thompson-2.

ABSENT ON LEAVE-Senators Ballingal, Burkeholder, Parrish, Parsons, Pope and Wilson-6.

Senator Phelan moved to refer the amendment to the Committee on Printing. Carried.

Senator Rubey moved that when the Senate adjourn, it adjourn until to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock. Carried.

On motion of Senator Claiborne, the Senate adjourned.

Senator Young offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That President S. S. Laws, of the State University, be requested to deliver an address on the subject of education, to the members of the General Assembly on the evening of February 1; read first and second time and adopted.

Senator Wallace offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That fifteen thousand copies of the report of Chas P. Williams, Acting State Geologist, for the years 1875 and 1876, be printed and distributed as follows: 1,000 copies for the use of the Governor; 2.000 copies for the use of the State University; 3,000 copies. for the use of the State Geologist; 6,000 copies for the use of House of Representatives; 3,000 copies for the use of the Senate; read first and second time, and, on motion of Senator Terry, referred to the Com mittee on Printing.

Senator Rubey introduced Senate bill No. 61, entitled An act in relation to savings' banks, private bankers, and fund companies, and to repeal certain acts in relation thereto; read first time.

Senator Hudson offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Committee on Printing be and is hereby instructed to procure bids for the printing and furnishing daily, two hundred copies of the official reports of the Senate and House during the present session; read first and second time, and referred to Committee on Printing.

Senate joint and concurrent resolution No. 4, with house amendment, was taken up, and the question being upon concurring in the House amendment, it ways agreed to by the following vote:

Senate went into executive session at 11 o'clock, and resumed regular session at 12:30 o'clock.

Senator Perkins introduced Senate bill No. 62, entitled An act to amend sections 2 and 3 of chapter 31 of the General Statues of Missouri; read first time.

Senator Young introduced Senate bill No. 63, entitled An act to provide for and pay the fees of certain attorneys employed by the State under and by authority of concurrent resolution, entitled "Attorney-General instructions to institute suits," approved March 21, 1873; read first time.

Senator Young moved that, when the Senate adjourn, it adjourn until to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock. Carried.

On motion of Senator Wallace, the Senate adjourned.

Senator Parsons, from the Committee on Enrolled Bills, submitted the following report:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Enrolled Bills would respectfully report that they have carefully examined and find correctly enrolled, joint and concurrent resolution No. 4, entitled Joint and concurrent resolution to employ counsel.

Resolved, That the report of the Superintendent of Public Schools, with accompanying documents be printed under the supervision of said Superintendent, in number and kind and for the uses following:

350 Copies, bound in style of last years' report, for use of Superintendent.

1,000 Copies, unbound, for use of Superintendent.

850 Copies, unbound, for use of Senate.

PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Claims, to whom was referred Senate till No. 13, entitled An act directing the auditing of a certain bill of criminal costs in favor of the clerk of the circuit court of Vernon county, Missouri, beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass.

Senator Thompson introduced Senate bill No. 64, entitled An act to amend section 1 of chapter 154 of General Statutes, in relation to trusts and trustees; read first time.

Senator Thompson introduced Senate bill No. 65, entitled An act to amend section 1 of chapter 139 of General Statutes, in relation to attorneys at law; read first time.

Senator Claiborne introduced Senate bill No. 66, entitled An act to provide for the employment of medical experts in certain criminal cases; read first time.

Senator Murray introduced Senate bill No. 67, entitled An act to amend an act entitled an act to amend sections 14 and 17 of chapter 2 of the General Statutes of Missouri, the same being sections 14 and 17 of Wagner's Statutes, approved March 18, 1875; read first time..

Senator Thompson called up Senate joint and concurrent resolution No. 7, in relation to the transfer of archives in the office of the United States Recorder of Land Titles of Missouri.

The pending amendments to the bill amendatory to the title and and enacting clause thereof were adopted.

Senator Thompson moved to amend the bill by adding a new section as follows:
