Senator Phelan's name being called, he asked to be excused from voting.

Senator Perkins moved that Senator Phelan be excused from voting.

Senator Murray moved to amend by excusing all Senators from voting who had conscientious scruples in the matter.

Senator Mosby introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate inform the House of Representatives that the Senate is now organized by the election of T. J O Morrisson, President pro tem.; Dan Able, Secretary; W Y. Pemberton, Assistant Secretary; C. T. Perrie, Sergeant-at-Arms; B. P. Bailey, Doorkeeper; J. W. Davis, Engrossing Clerk; Fred. L. Wensel, Enrolling Clerk; Rev. E. W. Gilliam, Chaplain; James Johnson, Official Reporter; John Delahay, Folder and Messenger; Masters James Clark and Harry Rubey, Pages; and is ready to proceed to business.

Senator Perkins introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Sergeant-at-Arms, Doorkeeper, Engrossing Clerk, Enrolling Clerk, Official Reporter, Chaplain, and every clerk of any committee employed under any resolution of this Senate, shall receive as compensation for their services the sum of five dollars per day each; the Folder and Messenger, three dollars; the Pages and employees of the Doorkeeper, not to exceed six in number, two dollars and fifty cents each; payment in all cases to be made for the time actually employed as such; and no person employed to any position by the Senate shall hold any position in the House of Representatives; and

Resolved further, That none of the officers or employees, as above mentioned, shall be allowed any mileage.

Senator Rubey moved to strike out the word "similar." Carried.

Senator Rubey moved that the resolution lay over informally. Carried.

Senator Thompson, on leave, introduced Senate Bill No. 1, entitled An act to provide for revising and digesting the laws of the State; read first and second times, and fifty copies ordered printed.

Senator Rubey offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary be authorized to appoint two Journal Clerks, one Docket Clerk and one Minute Clerk.

Leave of absence granted Senator Pope until Monday.

Senator Rubey introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That the President appoint a committee of three to wait upon the Governor and inform him of the due organization of the Senate and of its readiness to receive any communication he may desire to make.
