Senator Edwards, of St. Charles, introduceed the following reso

lution:

Resolved, That the Senate now proceed to the election of the permanent officers of the Senate of the Twenty-ninth General Assembly, in the following order :

First-President pro tem.
Second-Secretary.

Third-Assistant Secretary.

Fourth-Engrossing Clerk.

Fifth-Earolling Clerk.

Sixth-Sergeant-at-Arms.
Seventh-Doorkeeper.
Eighth-Chaplain.

Niuth-Folder and Messenger.

Tenth-Official Reporter.

Which was read the first and second times and adopted.

The President of the Senate thereupon announced that nominations for President pro tem. of the Senate are now in order.

Senator Young nominated Senator Morrisson.

Senator Burkeholder nominated Senator Pope.

No other nominations being made, the roll of the Senate was called, and the following Senators voted ·

Senator Morrisson having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected President pro tem. of the Senate.

The President then announced that nominations for Secretary of the Senate was now in order.

Senator Terry nominated Daniel Able.

No other nominations being made, the roll of the Senate was called, when the following Senators voted:

Mr. Daniel Able having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected Secretary of the Senate.

Nominations for Assistant Secretary of the Senate being the next in order,

No other nominations being made, the roll of the Senate was called, and the following Senators voted:

No other nominations being made, the roll of the Senate was called, and the following Senators voted:

There being no other nominations, the roll of the Senate was called, and the following Senators voted:

No other nominations being made, the roll was called, and the following Senators voted:

FOR E. W. GILLIAM-Senators, Abney, Ake, Ballingal, Biggs, Claiborne, Coleman, Edwards of St. Charles, Edwards of Lafayette, Flood, Lakenan, Major, Morrisson, Mosby and Murray.

Senator Newberry, whose name was called, asked to be excused from voting, and, on motion of Senator Thompson, Senator Newberry was excused.

Thereupon the call of the roll was continued, the following Senators voting for Rev. E. W. Gilliam :

Parrish, Parsons and Perkins.

Senator Phelan's name being called, he asked to be excused from voting.

Senator Perkins moved that Senator Phelan be excused from voting.

Senator Murray moved to amend by excusing all Senators from voting who had conscientious scruples in the matter.

The amendment was carried, and the motion as amended adopted. The roll call was continued, and the following Senators voted for Rev. E. W. Gilliam:

Rubey, Terry, Wight, Wilson, Wear, Young and Read-24.

Senators excused from voting-Burkeholder, Newberry, Paxton, Pope, Phelan, Seay, Shelby, Thompson and Wallace-9.

ABSENT Senator Hudson-1.

Rev. E. W. Gilliam having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared duly elected Chaplain of the Senate.

Nominations for Folder and Messenger being next in order, Senator Morrisson nominated John Delahay.

There being no other nominations, the roll was called, and the following Senators voted:

Resolved, That James Clark and Harry Rubey be declared Pages of the Senate of the 29th General Assembly.

Which was read and adopted.

The officers elected by the Senate came forward and took and subscribed to the oath of office, and entered upon the duties of their respective offices.

Senator Mosby introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate inform the House of Representatives that the Senate is now organized by the election of T. J O Morrisson, President pro tem.; Dan Able, Secretary; W Y. Pemberton, Assistant Secretary; C. T. Perrie, Sergeant-at-Arms; B. P. Bailey, Doorkeeper; J. W. Davis, Engrossing Clerk; Fred. L. Wensel, Enrolling Clerk; Rev. E. W. Gilliam, Chaplain; James Johnson, Official Reporter; John Delahay, Folder and Messenger; Masters James Clark and Harry Rubey, Pages; and is ready to proceed to business.

Senator Perkins introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Sergeant-at-Arms, Doorkeeper, Engrossing Clerk, Enrolling Clerk, Official Reporter, Chaplain, and every clerk of any committee employed under any resolution of this Senate, shall receive as compensation for their services the sum of five dollars per day each; the Folder and Messenger, three dollars; the Pages and employees of the Doorkeeper, not to exceed six in number, two dollars and fifty cents each; payment in all cases to be made for the time actually employed as such; and no person employed to any position by the Senate shall hold any position in the House of Representatives; and

Resolved further, That none of the officers or employees, as above mentioned, shall be allowed any mileage.

Senator Rubey moved to strike out the word "similar." Carried.

Senator Rubey moved that the resolution lay over informally. Carried.

Senator Thompson, on leave, introduced Senate Bill No. 1, entitled An act to provide for revising and digesting the laws of the State; read first and second times, and fifty copies ordered printed.

Senator Rubey offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Secretary be authorized to appoint two Journal Clerks, one Docket Clerk and one Minute Clerk.

Read first and second times and adopted.

Leave of absence granted Senator Pope until Monday.

On motion, the Senate adjourned to meet to-morrow morning at ten o'clock.

The President laid before the Senate papers notifying Senator Wallace of the 21st Senatorial District, that James L. Rush would contest his seat in the Senate of the 29th General Assembly of Missouri; which were read, and, upon motion of Senator Rubey, referred to Committee on Elections.

Senator Rubey introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That the President appoint a committee of three to wait upon the Governor and inform him of the due organization of the Senate and of its readiness to receive any communication he may desire to make.

Read first and second time and adopted.

Whereupon the President appointed Senators Rubey, Young and Hudson as said committee.
