Not all the riches of Golconda's mine,
Nor choicest stores that ever bless'd this earth,
Compare one moment with this
gem divine.
Worlds, suns, and systems vanish into nought,
The mighty universe itself grows dim,
When all the powers of intellect are brought
To contemplate this ever-glorious theme.
The love of Jesus! "Tis as high as heaven,
Deeper, far deeper than the ocean's cave;
The work is vain for highest seraph even,
To reach its depth, or fathom yet one wave.
No words can e'er reveal its wondrous height,
Its length and breadth exceed all human thought;
'Tis matchless, boundless as the realms of light,
And still with everlasting mystery fraught.
Shout ye angelic choirs! Prolong the sound;
Let ev'ry heart and voice with rapture move!
Ye mortals, echo the wide earth around
Enrapturing strains of praise to Jesus' love.
