M". 11.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made
an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he
departed thence to teach and to preach in their
cities.

59. The twelve preach repentance.
And they went out, and preached that men Mk.6.12

should repent. And they cast out many devils, 13 - James 5. * and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them every where. .

60. The death of John the Baptist.

M". 14.
But when Herod's birthday was kept, the
daughter of Herodias danced before them, and
pleased Herod. Whereupon he promised with 7
an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
And she, being before instructed of her mother, 8
said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a

charger. And the king was sorry: nevertheless 9
for the oath's sake, and them which sat with
him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. 10
And his head was brought in a charger, and 11
given to the damsel: and she brought it to her
mother. And his disciples came, and took up 12
the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
61. Herod desires to see Christ.

L. 9.
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that
was done by him: and he was perplexed, be-
cause that it was said of some, that John was
risen from the dead; and of some, that Elias 8
had appeared; and of others, that one of the
old prophets was risen again. And Herod said, 9
John have I beheaded : but who is this, of
whom I hear such things? And he desired to
see him.

62. The twelve return. L. 9. 10

And the apostles, when they were returned, A. D. 32. Mk.6.30 gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and

told him all things, both what they had done,
31 and what they had taught. And he said unto
them, “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert

place, and rest a while:” for there were many
coming and going, and they had no leisure so
much as to eat.

and saw a great company come unto him, he Mk.6.34 was moved with compassion toward them, be

cause they were as sheep not having a shep

35 And when the day was now far spent, he saith J. 6.5 unto Philip, “ Whence shall we buy bread, that

him: for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, "Two hundred pennyworth See
