And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest. CHAPTER I. 1 The solemn offering of Solomon at Gibeon. 7 Solomon's choice of wisdom is blessed by God. 13 Solomon's strength and wealth. h 5 Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it. 6 And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it. 7 ¶ In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 1 Kings 3. for thou hast made me king over a peoHeb much ple like the dust of the earth in multitude. as the dust of the earth. 10" Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold. g 10 And in the most holy house he made two cherubims || of image work, and overlaid them with gold. 11 ¶ And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub. 12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward. 14 ¶ And he made the "vail of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, Heb. caused and f wrought cherubims thereon. ΤΗ made for house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God. b 2 T Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. 3d Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month. 4 And all the elders of Israel came; and the Levites took up the ark. 5 And they brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the taber into the oracle. nacle, these did the priests and the Levites bring up. 6 Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude. 7 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims: 8 For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. 11 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place : (for all the priests that were † present were sanctified, and did not then wait by course: 12 Also the Levites which were the 1 Chron. 25. singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and 1 Chron. 15. with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets :) 13 It came h 24. peters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for Ps. 136. his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; i k See 1 Chron. 16. 34, 41. ch. 7. 2. 14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for Exod. 40.35. the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God. |
