THE COUNCIL.

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF WISCONSIN TERRITORY.

Begun and held at Burlington, in the county of Des Moines, on Monday, the sixth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven, being the second session held under the provisions of an act of the Congress of the United States, approved 20th April, 1836, entitled "An Act establishing the Territorial Government of Wisconsin."

On which day, being that fixed by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Wisconsin, for the annual meeting of the Legislative Assembly, the following members of the Council appeared and took their seats, viz:—

On motion of Mr. Terry,

Levi Sterling was appointed Sergeant-at-arms, pro tem.

On motion of Mr. Terry,

D. D. Wells was appointed Doorkeeper, pro tem.

On motion of Mr. Terry,

Henry O. Sholes was appointed Messenger, pro tem.

Mr. Sweet presented the certificate and oath of office of Joseph Dickinson, member elect from the county of Brown, in the room of Henry S. Baird, resigned,

and moved that he be permitted to take his seat.

The motion was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Terry,

Resolved, That the Council do proceed, on to-morrow, at 10 o'clock, A. M., to the election of officers for this body.

On motion of Mr. Terry,

The Council adjourned until to-morrow, at 10 o'clock, A. M.
