Let us minister of our substance according to the ability which God giveth; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ (1 Pet. iv. 11).

May the minister be able to say on this occasion, Lord, who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee (1 Chron. xxix. 14).

FOR MAGISTRATES SUPREME AND SUBORDINATE.

We pray for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty (1 Tim. ii. 2).

Give the king thy judgments, O God, that he may judge the people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment (Ps. lxxii. 1).

May kings be wise, and may the judges of the earth be instructed; may they serve God with fear, and rejoice with trembling (Ps. ii. 10).

Do thou set wise counsellors around the throne; men of truth, that fear thee, and hate coveteousness (Exod. xviii. 21).

Counsel the king's counsellors, and teach his senators wisdom (Ps. cv. 22).

Remove not the speech of the trusty, and take not away the understanding of the aged (Job xii. 20).

Do thou make our officers peace, and our exactors righteousness (Isa. lx. 17).

Do thou be for a spirit of judgment to him

that sitteth in judgment; and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate (Isa. xxviii. 6),

FOR SUBJECTS.

Let every soul be subject to the higher powers for there is no power but of God; the powers that be are ordained of God (Rom. xiii. 1).

If thou do that which is evil be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain; for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore we must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake (Rom. xiii. 4).

Let us render, therefore, to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour (Rom. xiii. 7).

Let us submit ourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and for the praise of them that do well (1 Pet. ii. 13).

Let us render unto Cesar, the things that are Cesar's; and unto God, the things that are God's (Matt. xxii. 21).

FOR SOLDIERS.

We pray for those who jeopard their lives upon the high places of the field. Teach their

hands to war, and their fingers to fight, and crown their head in the day of battle (Judges v. 18).

May the stout-hearted of their enemies be spoiled, and let none of the men of might find their hands (Ps. lxxvi. 5).

Disappoint their enemies when they say, in the vain confidence of boasting, I will pursue; I will overtake; I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them (Exod. xv. 9).

May they know by experience, that he who girdeth on his armour, should not boast himself as he that putteth it off (1 Kings xx. 11).

Lord, deliver them from their more dangerous enemies, even those lusts which war in their members: do thou compass them by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left (2 Cor. 6, 7).

FOR SEAMEN.

They that go down to the sea in ships, and do business in the great waters; these see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep (Ps. cvii. 23).

Thou art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea (Ps. lxv. 5).

We pray, that such may have the blessing that came upon the head of Joseph, and upon

the crown of the head of him that was separated from his brethren (Gen. xlix. 26).

O Lord, it becomes us to fear thee, and to tremble at thy presence, who hath placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it; and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet they cannot prevail; though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it (Jer. v. 22).

Thou hast shut up the sea with bars and doors, and broken up for it thy decreed place, and said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no farther; and here shall thy proud waves be stayed (Job xxxviii. 10).

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The Lord sitteth upon the flood; yea, the Lord sitteth king for ever (Ps. xxix. 3).

Let those that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and all the inhabitants thereof; give glory unto the Lord, and declare his praise in the islands (Isa. xlii. 10).

Let them lift up their voice, and sing for the majesty of the Lord; yea, let them glorify the name of the Lord God of Israel in the isles of the sea (Isa. xxiv. 14).

FOR MASTERS.

Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him : the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning (Lev. xix. 13).

Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and that giveth him not for his work (Jer. xxii. 13).

Behold the hire of the labourers which have reaped down your fields, that is of you kept back by fraud, crieth; and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth (James v. 4).

May all those who are masters forbear threatening, knowing that they have a Master in heaven, neither is there respect of persons with him (Eph. vi. 9).

Let masters give unto their servants that which is just and equal, knowing that they also have a Master in heaven (Col. iv. 1.)

FOR SERVANTS.

Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he is called. Art thou called being a servant? care not for it; but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather. For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's free man: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant (1 Cor. vii. 20).

Let as many servants as are under the yoke, count their masters worthy of all honour; that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed (1 Tim. vi. 1).

Let those who have believing masters, not despise them because they are brethren; but rather do them service: because they are faith
