ful and beloved, partakers of the benefit (1 Tim. vi. 2).

Let servants be obedient to them that are their masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart as unto Christ. Not with eye-service as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free (Eph. vi. 5).

Let servants be obedient to their own masters, and please them well in all things; not answering again; not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things (Titus ii. 9).

FOR HUSBANDS.

Let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband (1 Cor. vii. 2).

Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence, likewise also the wife unto the husband (1 Cor. vii. 3).

May husbands love their wives, even as Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word: that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish (Eph. v. 25).

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife loveth himself: and no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church (Eph. v. 28).

Enable husbands to dwell with their wives according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that their prayers be not hindered (1 Pet. iii. 7).

FOR WIVES.

Let wives submit themselves unto their own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let wives be to their own husbands in every thing (Eph. v. 22).

Enable wives to be in subjection to their own husbands; that if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of their wives; while they behold their chaste conversation coupled with fear (1 Pet. iii. 1).

Let women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broidered hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness,) with good works (1 Tim. ii. 9).

Enable the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient

to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed (Titus ii. 4).

FOR PARENTS.

O do thou enable parents to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. vi. 4).

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it (Prov. xxii. 6).

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame (Prov. xxix. 15).

He that spareth his rod, hateth his son; but he that loveth him, chasteneth him betimes (Prov. xiii. 24).

May parents show their children a good example, by walking before the Lord in the land of the living: by behaving themselves wisely, and walking within their house with a perfect heart (Ps. ci. 2).

May they study to be quiet, and do their own business, and work with their own hands; that they may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that they may have lack of nothing (1 Thess. iv. 11).

May they provide honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men (2 Cor. viii. 21).

May parents remember, that if any provide not for his own, and especially those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel (1 Tim. v. 8).

FOR CHILDREN.

Lord, we adore thee for that gracious declaration, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of heaven (Mark x. 14).

May it be truly said, in reference to many of the young, as of Jeremiah, That they were sanctified from the womb: and of good Obadiah, That they fear the Lord greatly: and of the child Abijah, That there is found in them some good thing toward the Lord God of Israel: and of young Timothy, That they know the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make them wise unto salvation (Jer. i. 5).

May they remember their Creator in the days of their youth (Eccles. xii. 1).

From this time may they cry unto thee, My Father, my Father; thou art the guide of my youth (Jer. iii. 4).

May children learn to show piety at home, and requite their parents, for this is good and acceptable before God. (1 Tim. v. 4).

We pray that thou wouldest preserve them that are setting out in the world, from the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Pet. i. 4).

FOR THE AFFLICTED IN BODY.

Affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground (Job v. 6).

Thou dost not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men; but though thou cause grief,

yet wilt thou have compassion according to the multitude of thy mercies (Lam. iii. 32).

May we remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and they that suffer adversity, as being ourselves also in the body (Heb. xiii. 3).

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God (2 Cor. i. 3).

Lord, since thou art pleased to correct our friend, do it with judgment, and not in thine anger, lest thou bring him to nothing (Jer. x. 24). Have mercy upon him, O Lord, for he is weak; heal him, for his bones are sore vexed (Ps. vi. 2).

Be pleased to remove thy stroke away from him, for he is consumed by the blow of thine hand (Ps. xxxix. 10).

Do thou say to this affliction, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no farther; and here shall thy power be stayed (Job xxxviii. 11).

When it shooteth forth, do thou debate it: stay thy rough wind in the day of thine east wind; and may the fruit of this affliction be the taking away of his sin (Isa. xxvii. 8).

O deliver him in this time of trouble, preserve him, and keep him alive, and make him blessed upon the earth (Ps. xli. 2).

O turn unto him, and have mercy upon him, and show him a token for good (Ps. lxxxvi. 16).
