them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like the grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; but in the evening it is cut down and withereth: yea, we spend our years as a tale that is told (Ps. xc. 3).

We are but of yesterday, and know nothing; because our days upon the earth are a shadow (Job viii. 9).

Our days are swifter than a post: they fiee away, they see no good. They are passed away as the swift ships; and as the eagle that hasteth to the prey (Job ix. 25).

Our days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope (Job vii. 6).

We stand in jeopardy every hour, and there is but a step between us and death (1 Cor. xv. 20). Lord, make us to know our end, and the measure of our days, what it is, that we may know how frail we are. Behold, thou hast made our days as an hand-breadth, and our age is as nothing before thee; verily every man at his best estate is altogether vanity (Ps.xxxix. 4).

IN REFERENCE TO DEATH.

By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned (Rom. v. 12).

There is no man that hath power over the spirit, to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death; and there is no discharge in that war (Eccles. viii. 8).

We see that wise men die, likewise the fool

and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth unto others (Ps. xlix. 10).

They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him that he should still live for ever, and not see corruption (Ps. xlix. 6).

One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet; his breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow; and another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure; but they shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them (Job xxi. 24).

Our fathers, where are they? and the pro. phets, do they live for ever? (Zech. i. 5).

What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? (Ps. lxxxix. 48).

We are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers (1 Chron. xxix. 15).

We know that thou wilt bring us to death, and to the house appointed for all living (Job xxx. 23).

There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary be at rest. There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. The small and the great are there; and the servant is free from his master (Job iii. 17).

There thy people dwell in peaceable habitations, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet rest

ing-places. There they lie still, and are quiet; they sleep, and are at rest (Isa. xxxii. 18).

IN REFERENCE TO THE RESURRECTION. As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive (1 Cor. xv. 22).

The hour is coming, in the which all that are in their graves shall hear the voice of the Son of man, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation (John v. 28).

The sea shall give up the dead which are in it; and death and hell shall deliver up the dead which are in them (Rev. xx. 13).

The earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain (Isa. xxvi. 21).

Lord, thou hast said, I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death I will be thy plagues; O grave I will be thy destruction; repentance shall be hid from mine eyes (Hos. xiii. 14).

Thy dead men shall live; together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust, for thy dew is as the dew of herbs; and the earth shall cast out the dead (Isa. xxvi. 19).

Let us not be ignorant concerning them that are fallen asleep, that we sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him (1 Thess. iv. 13).

For if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in us, he that raised up Christ from the dead, shall also quicken our mortal bodies by his Spirit which dwelleth in us (Rom. viii. 11).

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory (1 Cor. xv. 53).

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (1 Cor. xv. 55).

The Lord Jesus shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his own glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself (Phil. iii. 20).

As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness (Ps. xvii. 15).

IN REFERENCE TO THE JUDGMENT.

It is appointed unto all men once to die, and after death the judgment (Heb. ix. 27).

For we must all appear before the judgmentseat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad (2 Cor. v.10).

Hereafter shall we see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven (Matt. xxvi. 64).

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him (Rev. i. 7).

But of that day and hour knoweth no man; no, not the angels of heaven, but the Father only. For as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be (Matt.xxiv.36). The day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night (1 Thess. v. 2).

But the Lord hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead (Acts xvii. 31).

The Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son; that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father (John v. 22).

Then shall the Lord bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and inake manifest the counsels of the hearts (1 Cor. iv. 5).

For God shall bring every work into judg ment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or bad (Eccles. xii. 14).

Then shall the King say to them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world (Matt. xxv. 34).

Then shall he say also to them on his left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt. xxv. 41).
