Save us from a mere profeffion,
Save us from hypocrify;
Give us, Lord, the sweet poffeffion
Of thy righteousness and thee:
Beft of favors,

[ocr errors]

None compar'd with this can be.

Let us never, Lord, forget thee!
Make us walk as pilgrims here:
May we give thee all the glory
Óf the love that brought us near:
Bid us praise thee,

And rejoice with holy fear.

Free election, known by calling,
Is a privilege divine :

Saints are kept from final falling:
All the glory, Lord, be thine,
All the glory,

All the glory, Lord, is thine.

Adoption.

LL the Lord's honor'd, chofen race
Adopted were by fov'reign grace;
As view'd in Chrift, they ever ftood
The children of the living God.
The Lord eternally forefaw,

That they would break his holy law,
And fink in guilt, and deep disgrace,
With all the train of Adam's race.
Yet as Jehovah fix'd his eyes
On the atoning facrifice;

He his dear fons could never see,
But with a full complacency."

The Father's heart o'erflow'd with love,
And fent down Jefus from above;
Jefus pour'd out his precious blood,
To bring the children home to God."
Under the fway of mighty grace,
They fee their heav'nly Father's face,
Smiling a great falvation down
On ev'ry dear returning fon.

As we by faith to Jefus go:

Adoption manifefted.

LAS! by nature how deprav'd,
How prone to ev'ry ill!

Our lives to Satan how enflav'd,
How obftinate our will!

And can fuch finners be reftor'd,
Such rebels reconcil'd!

Can grace itself the means afford

To make a foe a child!

Yes, grace has found the wond'rous means,
Which shall effectual prove;

To cleanfe us from our countless fins,
And teach our hearts to love.

Jefus for finners undertakes,
And dy'd that we may live ;
His blood a full atonement makes,
And cries aloud, "forgive."

Yet one thing more must grace provide,
To bring us home to God;
Or we shall flight the Lord, who dy'd,
And trample on his blood.

The Holy Spirit muft reveal

The Savior's work and worth ;

Then the hard heart

begins to feel A new and heav'nly birth.

Thus bought with blood, and born again,
Redeem'd and fav'd by grace;

Rebels, in God's own houfe obtain
A fon's and daughter's place.

The Privileges of Adoption.

LESSED are the fons of God;

B They are bought with Jefus blood;

They are ranfom'd from the grave;
Life eternal they shall have.

God did love them in his Son
Long before the world begun :
They the feal of this receive,
When on Jefus they believe.
They are fav'd alone by grace;
They enjoy a folid peace;
All their fins are wafh'd away;
They shall stand in God's great day:

They are lights upon the earth,
Children of an heav'nly birth;
Born of God, they hate all fin;
God's pure feed remains within:

They have fellowship with God,
Through the Mediator's blood;
One with God, with Jefus one;
Glory is in them begun :

Though they fuffer much on earth,
Strangers to the worldling's mirth;
Yet they have an inward
Joy,.

Pleasures that can never cloy.

Thefe alone are truly bleft-
Heirs of God-joint-heirs with Chrift:
With them number'd may we be
Here, and in eternity.

Great God, before thine awful bar ?

How may the guilty hope to find
Acceptance with th eternal Mind?

Not vows, nor groans, nor broken cries,
Not the most coftly facrifice,

Not infant blood profufely fpilt,
Will expiate a finner's guilt

Thy blood, dear Jefus, thine alone,
Hath fov'reign virtue to atone :
Here we will reft our only plea,
When we approach, Great God, to thee.
