Then the Lord's Prayer, to be said by the People, after

the Minister.

UR Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be

OUR

thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and Amen.

ever.

Then shall the Minister and the People say: Minister. The Lord be with you.

People. And with thy spirit.

Minister. Lift up your hearts.

People. We lift them up unto the Lord.

Then shall be read or sung the following Psalm, or the Psalms for the day, or both; and after the Psalms a Hymn may be sung.

I

WILL extol thee, my God, O King; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

The LORD is good to all; and his tender mercies are over all his works.

All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.

They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom; and talk of thy power.

The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him: even to all that call upon him in truth.

My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and

ever.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible: the only wise God;

Be honor and glory: for ever and ever. Amen.

Then shall be read the FIRST LESSON taken out of the Old Testament. After that shall be said or sung the fol lowing Psalm, or any other suitable Music.

THE

HE earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell

therein.

For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;

who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? the LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible: the only wise God;

Be honor and glory: for ever and ever. Amen.

Then shall be read the SECOND LESSON, taken out of the New Testament. After that shall be said or sung the following Psalm or any other suitable Music.

[ocr errors]

LORD, whither shall I go from thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in the grave, behold, thou art there.

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

How precious are thy thoughts unto me, Ọ God! how great is the sum of them!

If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand.

Now unto the God of grace: for the might of his Spirit and the love of Christ;

Be glory in the Church throughout all ages: world without end. Amen.

Then shall the Minister and the People say the following Prayer.

Ο

GOD most holy, who hast abundantly assured us that, while thou art strict to punish those who continue in their sins, thou art a gracious and tender Father to the penitent, and wilt open thine ear in compassion to the prayers of all such as with heartfelt shame and sorrow confess their sins before thee; show us, we beseech thee, our transgressions as they truly are: pardon us for the evil we have done: judge us not for the good we have

left undone work in us to will and to do thy good pleasure; that, being sanctified by thy Spirit, we may serve thee in a religious and holy conversation, as true disciples of thy Son Jesus Christ.

People. Search us, O Lord, and know our hearts.

Minister. Try us and know our thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in us.

People. And lead us in the way everlasting.

Then the Minister shall say one or more of the following Prayers, or such Prayer or Prayers as he may think proper; the People responding with " AMEN."

66

GOD our Father, we receive with all thank

fulness the manifold testimonies thou hast given us of thine incomprehensible love and favor towards us through thy dearly beloved Son; and most humbly we bow our knees unto thee, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that thou wouldest grant us, according to the riches of thy glory, to be strengthened with might by thy Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith; and that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the length, and breadth, and depth and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that we may be filled with all the fulness of God. Amen.
