enter in through the gates into the city." This tree of life seems to be the first blessing lost through Adam's sin;-the last that is restored through Christ's righteousness. Dear children, let the history of Adam lead us to think more of Christ-to see more plainly how superior He is to every created being. Never forget that the benefit to be got from studying the types of our blessed Lord, is seeing more of His excellence, and being led to love Him more. The study of Adam's character and history should lead us to think much of, and dread much, the consequences of sin. Just think what dreadful misery came upon the world through that one transgression of Adam and Eve. How little they thought what would come of it! And when we sin, how little we know what will come of it! Let this thought make you fear sin more than anything. Never say, it is only this once: one more sin can make no great differenceno great harm can come of that. Perhaps Adam thought so when he ate the forbidden fruit; but see what harm did come of it! Remember, you never can tell what harm, what misery, what curse, you may bring upon yourself or others by sinning, as you may resolve, only this once. Let the history of Adam,

too, as a type of our blessed Lord, lead you to consider to whom you belong. All by nature belong to the first Adam, and, as I said before, many belong to him, and him only, all their lives. But if this is the case with you,

you must perish. Unless you get an interest in the second Adam, Christ, you cannot be saved. Unless Christ is to you by grace what Adam is by nature-your Father, your head, your representative-you will assuredly be lost. Adam gives you an inheritance of sin, and death, and hell. Christ gives His people pardon, righteousness, and everlasting life. You cannot help belonging to the first Adam, but it will be your own fault if you do not belong to the second. Let the study of Adam as a type of our blessed Lord lead you to resolve to give yourself to Jesus, and then, indeed, it will not have been in vain.

I AM going to tell you to-day about a very remarkable type of the Lord Jesus Christ: Noah. His name would lead us to expect him to be a type of our blessed Lord, for it signifies rest, or comfort. Genesis v. 29: "And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning the work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed."

I need not say that it is in the Lord Jesus Christ alone that we can find rest. Look at Matt. xi. 28, 29, and read His gracious invitation, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest; take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." Noah was a type of the Lord Jesus Christ in two respects especially. In his long patience in preaching during the 120 years he was building the ark, and in saving all who belonged to him. Every stroke of Noah's hammer was a sermon; he went patiently on for 120 years preaching

to the ungodly world, and warning them of the destruction that was coming on the earth, 2 Pet. ii. 5,-" And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly." But none would listen. Only his own family would believe him. So, all but his own, perished. It is pleasant to think of Noah as a type of our Lord in saving all who did believe him. How happy and safe they must have felt when the Lord had shut them safe in the ark! He did not send them there alone, He went with them. Look at Gen. vii. 1:-" And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation." You see the Lord was there. He did not say go, but come. You should take notice, too, that the Lord says, thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Out of all that great number of people, the Lord saw one man that loved Him. One that remembered that God's eye was always on him. One that walked before Him. One that tried to please Him. And do you think it is not the same now? If there is one among you that is trying to please God-one that lifts up his heart to Jesus-one that turns away from sin, and prays for the Holy Spirit
