much as the sin bearer, but having borne our sin, as the ground of our peaceful and happy fellowship with God." He is Himself our peace. So there can be no question of "making our peace with God," an expression often ignorantly used.

[ocr errors]

November 29.-Ch. iv. The three last were "sweet-savour " offerings, this and the following are "sacrifices for sin." See how beautifully, in verses 24, 29, 33, the transfer of our sin to the Sin-Bearer is symbolized. Refer to the double transfer in 2 Cor. v. 21.

November 30.-Ch. v. In the sin offering, sin is fully met, here "in the trespass offering there is a full answer to the actual sins in daily life." First, for trespasses in our "holy things" (See Mal. iii. 8); then in all the ordinary transactions of life. The precious blood of Christ cleanses from ALL.

Scripture Reading and Prayer Union.

1. Every MEMBER reads daily the same Chapter of the Old Testament, and a short Evening Portion of the New. ASSOCIATES read only the New Testament portion, any time during the day.

2. Persons of all ages and all denominations may join.

All readers of "CHRISTIAN PROGRESS" are invited to join this Union, either as Members or Associates, and to ask their friends to do so. They should send their full names and addresses (stating whether Rev., Esq., Mr., Mrs., or Miss) to the Rev. ERNEST Boys, Beverley, Sidcup, Kent. One stamp must be enclosed, and a card of Membership will be forwarded.

SINCE we last reported our increase, two months ago, we have received the names of 1,925 new Members, and 841 Associates, making a total increase of 2,766 new readers in two months.

While we trust that our Members and Associates will all try to obtain fresh readers amongst their friends, we hope that they will urge upon them that they should carefully fulfil the obligation which they undertake, in reading the portions regularly.

SPECIAL ASSOCIATIONS FOR SCRIPTURE Reading.

We are glad to announce that we have now 756 Special Associations with a Secretary for each. They are as follows:-Village Associations, 321; Mothers' Meetings, 50; Bible Classes, 79; Sunday School Classes, 134; Ladies' Schools, 112; District, 54; Parochial, 6. These Associations afford spheres of work of a very interesting sort, and we should be glad if those who could become Secretaries would write for instructions for working them.

SUBJECT FOR PRAYER FOR NOVEMBER.

For blessing on the efforts of all our Members and Associates engaged in any branch of Christian work.

PAROCHIAL MISSION COLLECTING PAPERS.-We have this month inserted in the Magazine a Collecting Paper for the Church of England Parochial Mission Society. We shall be thankful to those of our readers who will help on the good work by collecting this month from their friends any sums large or small; even the smallest will be thankfully received. Let them read on the Paper what the Society is doing, and then do what they can to help. Some who for any reason cannot collect, might return the papers with any contribution they can spare themselves.

A lady has some Tinted Cards, prettily ornamented with dried ferns and flowers, ready for writing texts, or for use as Birthday, New Year, or Christmas Cards. She will gladly send them post-free at 4/6 the dozen. The proceeds are for the Parochial Mission Fund (C. P. Auxiliary). Address, Mrs. R. D., Westbrook Hay, Hemel Hempstead.
