WARREN. 7 shades of Pink 4-Thread Berlin Wool, 2 skeins of each, 1 skein of Pink Shaded Wool, 1 skein of stout Pink Silk and 1 skein of Pink Floss. 3 round Meshes, No. 7, 10, 16; 2 flat Meshes, one an inch wide and one of an inch wide. 1st Row.-No. 7 Mesh, lightest shade. Net the 2nd and 3rd rows alternately till there are 12 rows, or if the sleeve is required longer, net more rows using the shades of Wool in gradation, with the last shade net a row with No. 16 Mesh, then with the same shade a row with No. 10 Mesh, net another row with the same Mesh and shade of Wool, only netting the alternate loops. Run a strong piece of Cotton through this row, and cut off the sleeve from the foundation, and pick out the stitches carefully; on this row commences the Cuff. 1st Row. No. 16 Mesh, Pink Silk. 2nd Row.-inch Mesh, a row of shaded Wool doubled, taking care to match the shades exactly, avoid twisting the Wool in netting it. 3rd Row. No. 16 Mesh, Pink Silk, divide the stitches. in the last row by netting 1 loop of every stitch and leaving the other loop at the top, consequently this will form 2 narrow frills, and forms the foundation of the Scallops of the Cuff. 4th Row. Continue the under frill, inch Mesh, single shaded Wool. VOL. I. NO. 11. 5th Row.-No. 16 Mesh, Pink Silk. 6th Row. No. 7 Mesh, single shaded Wool. 7th Row-Broad Mesh, same Wool, 2 stitches into the 1st loop, 8 stitches into every 9th loop, 6 stitches into the last stitch but 1, 2 into the last. 8th Row.-No. 10 Mesh, same Wool. 9th Row. Same Mesh, Pink Floss Silk. This finishes the under Frill. 10th Row. No. 10 Mesh, single shaded Wool, tie the Wool on the 1st stitch, take up the loops left on the top in the 3rd row. 11th Row. Broad Mesh, tie the same Wool into the 1st stitch, net 6 stitches into the 2nd loop, 8 stitches into every 9th loop, 2 stitches into the last. There should be 6 Scallops in each Frill. 12th Row.-No. 10 Mesh, same Wool. 13th Row. Same Mesh, Pink Floss Silk. Sew it up neatly with Wool on the wrong side, and run a piece of narrow Satin Ribbon into the lightest shade. KNITTED OPERA CAP WITH NETTED BORDER. DESIGNED BY MRS. WARREN. No. 10, Ivory Pins. 2 Flat Meshes, one of an inch in width and one a of an inch. 7 shades of Pink 4-Thread Berlin Wool, 3 skeins of each will be required. Commence with the darkest shade. Cast on 96 stitches and knit 2 plain rows, observe not to cast on too tightly. 3rd Row.-Knit 2 together turning the Wool twice over the Pin, in the next row this must be taken off as 1 stitch, make 1, repeat. 4th and 5th Rows.-Plain knitting. 6th Row.-Pearl knitting. 7th Row.-Join on the next shade, knit 2 together, make 1, repeat. 8th and 9th Rows.-Plain knitting. 10th Row.-Pearl knitting from the 7th to the 10th rows form the pattern. Knit 2 patterns of each shade altering the color after every 2nd pearl row, and decreasing at the commencement of every row after the darkest shade by knitting 2 together, there should be 13 fancy rows. In casting off, cast off 6 single stitches, the remainder cast off 2 together, till within 6 stitches of the end, cast these off singly. For the Border. Take the inch Mesh and with the darkest shade commence at the beginning of the 1st shade round the corner at the ear, net a row very thickly till the 7th pattern in front, do this at both ears, then take the inch Mesh, net a row round the cap, and on the top also of the last row of netting with each of the 5 lightest shades, commencing with the darkest, taking care to net the Border on the wrong side of the knitting. After finishing draw a narrow Satin Ribbon through the 3rd row and turn the ends at the ears round in the form of a rosette, and finish with a rosette of narrow Satin Ribbon.
