24 Behold, here is my daughter, a maiden, and his concubine,them I will bring out now,and humble ye them,and do with them what feemeth good unto you? but unto this man do not fo vile a thing.

25 But the men would not hearken to him:fo the man took his concubine. and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her,and abufed her all the hight until the morning: and when the day began to fpring; they let her go. 16 Then came the woman in the dawing of the day, & fell down at the door of the mans houfe, where her lord is, tillit was light. 27 And her ford rote up In the morning, and ope ned the door or the houfe, and went out to go his way: and behold, the wo. man his concubine was fallen down at the door of

29 And when he was come into his houfe, he took a knife and laid hold on his concubine, and di vided her, together with her bones into twelve ple ces, and fent her into al the coats of Ifrael..

CHAP. XX. THen all the children of

12 And the tribes of If racl fent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, fay ing, What wickedness is this that is done among you?

13 Now therefore dellver us the men, the children of Belial, which are in Gibeah; that we, may put them to death, and pur away evil from Ifrael. But the children of Benjamin, would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Ifrael..

14 But the children of Benjamin gathered them. felves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battel against the children of Ifrael.

15 And the children of Benjamin were numbred at that time out of the cities, twenty and fix thousand men that drew fword, befide the inhabitants of Glbeah,which were numbred feven hundred chofen men

16 Among all this people there were feven hundred

17 And the men of Ifrael belide Benjamin, numbred four hundred thoufand men that drew word ; allthefe were men of war.

18 And the children of Ifrael arofe, and went up to the houfe of God, and asked counfel of God, and faid, Which of us that go up firft to the barrel a gainst the children of Ben jamin? and the Lord laid, Judab fhall go up firft.

19 And the children of Ifrael rofe up in the mor. ning, & encamped againft Gibeah.

20 And the men of Ifrael went out to battel against Benjamin, and the men of Ifrael pur themselves in aray to fight again them at Gibeah.

21 And the children of Benjamin came forth our of Gibeah, and deflroyed down to the ground of the Ifraelites that day, twenty and two thousand men.

22 And the people the men or Ifrael encouraged themfelves, and fet their battel again in aray in the place where they put them. felves in aray the first day.

23 (And the children of Iftael went up and wept before the LORD until e ven, and asked connfel of. the Lord,faying, Shal I go up again to barrel against the chlidren of Benjamin my brother?And the Lord fald, Go up against him.

24 And the children of Ifrael came near against the children of Benjamin the fecond day.

25 And Benjamin weir forth again them out of Gibeah the fecond day, and deftroyed down to the ground of the children of Ifrael again, eighteen thousand men: all thefa drew the fword.

26 Then all children of Ifrael and all the people Pa

went up, and came unto The house of God, & wept, and fat there before the Lord, and fafted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings, and peace offerings before the Lord. 27 And the children of Ifrael enquired of the LORD (for the ark ofthe covenant of God wasthere in thofe days."

29 And Ifrael fet llers in wait round about Gibeah. 30 And the children of Ifrael went up againit the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in aray against Gibeah, as at other rimes. 31 And the children of Benjamin went out again The people, and were drawn away from the city, and they began to infire of the people, 44 kilasat other times, in the high ways of which one goeth up to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah in the field abour thirty men of Ifrael. 32 And the children of Benjamin fald, They are Imitten down before us as ar the fire. 36 So the children of Benjamin faw that they were fmitten: for he men of Ifrael gave place to the Benjamites, because they trufted unto the liers in wait which they had fet befide Gibeah..

37 And the llers in wait hafted, and rushed upon Gibeah, and the liers In wait drew themselves along and fmote all the citywith the edge of the fword.

38 Now there was an ap. pointed fign between the men of Ifrael and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with Imoke to rife up out of the city."

39 And when the men of Jfrael retired in the bar: el, Benjamin began to fmite and kill of rhe men' of If rael abour thirty perfons; for they fald, Surely they are fairten down before is, as in the first battel.

40 But when the flame began to arife up out of the city, with a pillar of fmoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and behold; the flame of the city afcended up to heaven

41 And when the men of Ifrael turned again, the men of Benjamin were a mazed for they faw that evil was come upon them. 42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Ifrael, unro the way of the 'wilderness; but the Barrèr overtook them: and them which came out of the cities, they dearoyed in the midst ofthem.

43 Thus they enclosed the Benjamites round about. and chafed them,and trode: them down with cafe over Gibeah toward the

46 So that all which fell that day of Benjamin,were twenty and five thousand men that drew the fword, allthefewere men ofvalour 47 But fix hundred men turned and fled to the wil dernefs unto the rock Rimmon, and abode in. the rock Rimmon four moneths.

45 And the men of Ifrael turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and Imote them with the edge of the fword, as well the men of every city, as the beaft, and all that came to, hand; alfo they fer on fire all the cities that they cameto.

Benjamin their brother, & faid, There is one tribe cut off from Ifrael this day

7 How hall we do for wives for them that remain,felng we have fworn by the LORD, that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?

8 And they faid, What one is there of the tribes of Ifrael, that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD?and behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeh gilead to the affembly..

9 For the people were numbrod, and behold,there were none of the inhabl tants of Jabeth gilead here

10 And the congregation fent thither twelve thou fand men of the valianten, &commanded them,faying Go and fmite the Inhabi tants of Jabeth gilead with the edge of the word with the women and thechildren

11 And this is the thing that ye thal do, Ye fhail С CHAP. XXI. utterly destroy every male Now the men, of Ifrael and every woman that had worn inzpeb, hath llen by man. faying, There har nor any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

2 And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lift up their voices, and wept fore:

3 And fald, O Lord God of Ifrael, why is this come to pass in Ifrael,that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Ifrael?

4 And it came to pass on the morrow thar the people rofe early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings, and peace offerings.

And the children of If rael faid, Who is there a mong all the tribes of Ifras el, that came not up with the congregarion unto the LORD forthey had made a great oath concerning him that came nor up to the LORDro Mizpeh, fay Ing. He thal furely be put to death.

6 And the children of Ifrael repented them for

12 And they found among the inhabitants of Jabebegilead, four hun. dred young virgins that had known no man by ly. ing with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

13 And the whole con gregation fent fome to peak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.

14 And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had faved alivé of the women of Jabefh gilead and yet to they iufficed them not.

15 Andthe people repen ted them for Benjamin, be caufe that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Ifrael.

19 Then they fald, Be hold, there is a feaft of the LORD tn Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north fide of Beth-el, on the caft fide of the high way that goeth up from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the fouth of Lebonah. 20 Therefore they com2, And the children of manded the children of Ifrael departed thence at Benjamin, faying, Go and that time, every man to lie in waitin the vineyards his tribe, and to his fami 21 And fee, and behold, ly, and they went out If the daughters of Shiloh from thence every man co come out to dance in bis inheritance. dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, & catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh,

23 And the children of Benjamin did fo, and rook them wives according to their numbers of them that danced,whom they caught and they went & returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities,and dwelt in them.

25 In those days there wa no king in 1frael: every man did that which was right la his own eyes.
