CHAP. XXIX.

Then Jacob went on his
journey, and came into"
the land of the people of

18 And Jacob loved Ra chel, and faid, will ferve thee feven years for Rachef thy younger daughter.

Laban,

22 And Laban gathered

place, and made a feaft.
23 And it came to pafs in
the evening, that he took
Leah his daughter, and
brought her to him, and
he went in unto her.
24 And Laban gave unto
his daughter Leah, Zilpah
his maid, for an hand-maid
25 And it came to pafs,
that in the morning, be.
hold it was Leah: and he
faid to Laban,What is this
thou haft done unto me?
did not I ferve with thee
for Rachel wherefore then
haft thou beguiled me?
26And Laban faid, It muft
not be fo donein our coun-
trey, to give the younger
before the firft born.

27 Fulfill her week, and we will give thee this alfo, for the fervice which thou fhalt ferve with me yet feven other years

28 And Jacob did fo, and fulfilled her week and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife alf.

20 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, Bilhah his hand maid, to be

her maid

30 And he went in unto Rachel, and he loved alfo Rachel more than Leab, and ferved with him yet feven other years.

31 And when the Lord faw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

32 And Leah conceived ard bare a fon; and the I called his name Reuben for thefaid,Surely theLord barb looked upon my af, Alion; now therefore my husband will love me.

33 And the conceived a gain, and bave a fon; and faid, Because the LORD hth heard that was ha red, he hath therefore gi ven me this fen alfo, & she called his name Simeon,

34 And she conceived a gala, and bare a fon; ard

35 And she conceived a gain, and bare a fon; & shelaid, Now will I praife the Lord therefore she called, his name Judah: and letr bearing.

CHAP. XXX

ANd when Rachel faw
that she bare Jacob no
children, Rachel envied
her fifter, and faid unto
Jacob, Give me children,
or elfe I die.

2 And Jacobs anger was
kindled against Rachel,
and he faid, Am I in Gods
fread, who hath withheld
from thee the fruit of the
womb?

3 And she fald, Behold, my mald Bilhah, go in un to her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may alfo have children by her. 4 And she gave him Bil hah her hand maid to wife; and Jacob went in unto her

5 And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a fon.

6 And Rachel fald, God
hath indged me, and hath
alfo heard my voice, and
hath given me afon
therefore called she his
name Dan.

7 And Bilhah Rachels
mald conceived again, and
bare Jacob a fecond fon.
8 And Rachel faid, With

9 When Leah faw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife,

10 And Zilpah Leahs mald bare Jacob a fon.

11 And Leah faia, A troup cometh and she called his name Gad..

12 And Zilpah Leahs maid bare Jacob a fecond fon.

13 And Leah faid, Happy am I, for the daughters

31 And he faid, What shall I give thee? And Ja cob faid, Thou shalt not give me any thing: ifthou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy Rock

38 And he fet the rods which he hadpilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs, when the flocks came to drink; that they should conceive when they came to drink.

39 And the flocks con. ceived before the rods,and brought forth cattel ring. ftraked, fpeckled and fpor

red.

40 And Jacob did fe parate the lambs, and fet the faces of the flocks to ward the ring ftraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban: and he put his own flocks by themfelves; and put them not unto La bans catcel.

41 And it came to pafs whenfoever the ftronger cattel did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the carrel in the gutters, that they might conceive among the

42 But when the cattel were feeble, he put them norin: fo the feebler, were Labans, and the stronger Jacabs.

43 And the man increafed exceedingly,and had much catrel, and maid-fervants, and men-fervants, and ca! mels, and affes.

CHAP. XXXI.

ANd he heard the words of Labans fons, faying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our fathers; and of dat which was our fa

2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban,and behold, it was not towardhim as before.

3 And the Lord faid un to Jacob, Retun unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

4 And Jacob fent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock

And laid unto them, I fee your fathers countes nance, that it is not to ward me as bef re: bur the God of my father hath been with me.

6 And ye know that with all my power I have ferved your father.

7 And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times: but God fuffered him not to hurt me.

8 If he fald thus, The fpeckled shall be thy wages, then all the carrel bare fpeckled: and if he fald thus, The ring ftak ed shall be thy hire; then bare all the carrel ring ftraked.

9 Thus God hath taken away the cattel ofy mrsa ther, and given them to me.

II And the angel of God fpake unto me in a dream faying, Jacob: And I faid Herc am 1.

18 And he carried away all his cattel, and all his goods which he had got ten, the cattel of his get ting, which he had gotten in Padan-aram for to go to Ifaac his father to the land of Canaan.

19 And Labah went to thear his theep: and Rachel hadftollen the images That were her fathers.

20 And Jacob ftole away unawares to Laban the Sy rian, In that he told him not that he fled.

21 So he fled with all that he had, and he rofe up,and paffed over the river, and fet his face toward the mount Gilead.

22 And it was told Laban on the third day, that Jacob was filed.

23 And he took his brethren with him, and purfued after him feven days. Journey; & they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

24 And God came to La ban the Syrian in a dream by night, and faid unto him, Take heed that thou fpeak not to Jacob either good or bad..

25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pirched his tent in the mount and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

25 And Laban faid to Ja cob, What hast thou done, that thou hal tollen away

unawares to me, and car ried away my daughters as captives saken with the fword?

27 Wherefore didst thou flee awayfecretly, and fleal away from me? and didft not tell me, that I might have fent thee away with mirth, and with fongs, with tabret,and with harp

28 And haft not fuffered me to kifs my fons and my daughters? thou haft now done foolishly info doing.

29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hart but theGod of your father fpake unto me yefternight, faying, Take thou heed that thou fpeak not to Jacob either good or bad.

30 And now though thou wouldeft needs be gone, becaufe thou fore longedit after thy fathers houfe; yet wherefore haft thou fol. len my gods?

31 And Jacob anfwered and faid to Laban, Becaufe I was afraid: for I fald, Peradventre thou would eft take by force thy daughters from me.

32 With whomfoever thou findest thy gods, let him nor live: before our brethren difcern thou what is thine with me,and take it to thee: for Jacob knew not that Rachel had ftollen them.

33 And Laban went into Jacobs tent, and into Le. ahs tent, and into the two maid fervants rents? bur he found them not. Then went he out of Leahs rent, and entred into Rachels tent.

34 Now Rachel had ta ken the images, and pur them in the camels furni ture, and fat upon them: and Laban fearched all the tent, but found them not.

35 And the faid to her fa ther, Let It not difpleafe my lord that I cannot rife up before thee; for the cuftom of women is upor me: and he fearched but found not the images. 36And Jacob was wroth,
