The companies that are filing incline towards the head of the column: fucceffively front at their wheeling distances, afcertained as ufual by their ferjeants: take up the ordinary step, and follow in open column.

When the column is marching fteadily, the whole fub-divifionsdouble at once by one command, and again move up at another.

The line is thus formed oblique from open column, on a central company, by the echellon march.

The line thus changes the left company, by pofition to the front, on

the echellon march.

If the battalion has hitherto been formed two deep, it will now form three deep, if its companies are of ten files

The fquare is formed by the echellon march of companies.

After the march by the left face, the square is formed when it is oppofite to the general. The firings in fquare are as expreffed in S. 178.

When the order is given to form line, the light company marches quickly, and places itfelf two deep and in two divifions, 10 or 12 paces behind the two center companies. 15. Retire

When the line has paffed the light company 20 paces, that company extends to cover the center of the battalion, and follows at 500r 60 paces diftance; and when the column halts to form, the light company paffes quickly through and beyond it. The companies file quick to the rear.

The battalions form line at the extremity of its ground; the light company 30 paces in its rear.

Before the line advances, the light comtended 30 paces before pany quickly forms exthe center, and preferves that diftance in advancing.

When the column halts to form, the light >company paffes quick to the rear, and affembles half of it behind each flank, and moves. relatively with the flank companies till after the charge of bayonets.

The alternate half battalions fire the 2 first ranks ftanding.

After the volley, bayonets are ported, the battalion advances firm by the center at the quick ftep, and at the word Halt, the front rank comes down to the charging pofition— The word Prime and Load is then given, and the light company itfuing from behind the flanks, purfue, return, and affemble and join on the left of the battalion.

The whole battalion being affembled.

The alternate half battalions fire the two front ranks standing.

In the obliquing, and in the volleys the front rank kneels.

The mufick may occafionally play, and drums roll, while the line advances.

The mufick will play, when advancing at open ranks.

Such other Manauvres as may at the time be required.
