8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery, I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

9 And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with g stocks.

24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God that giveth rain, b both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth d unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

25 Your iniquities e have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

26 For among my people are found wick ed men: they 4 lay wait as he that settet snares: they set a trap, they catch men. 27 As a 6 cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

28 They are waxen fat, i they shine. yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not k the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper: and the right of the needy do they not judge. 29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

30 Awonderful and n horrible thing is committed in the land;

31 The prophets prophesy falsely, o and the priests 9 bear rule by their means; and my people love p to have it so: and what will ye do in the end q thereof? CHAP. VI.

2 I have likened the daughter of Zion to c Eze.3.20. a 1 comely and delicate woman. 3 The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her: they shall pitch d their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

4 Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for f the day goeth away, for the shadows g of the evening are stretched out. 5 Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

6 For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and 2 cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

THE word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, andproclaim there this word,and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD. 3 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend z your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

4 Trust ye not b in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD,The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these. 5 For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if you throughly exe cute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, g neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

7 Then h will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, tha cannot profit.

9 Willo ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

10 And comer and stand before me it this house, 6 which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

11 Is this house which t is called by my name, become a den u of robbers in your eyes? behold, even I have scen it, saith the LORD
