over the important Diocese committed to your charge, with the same paternal care, and pious zeal, for which you have hitherto been distinguished, and which ill-health has not been able to abate, is the fervent prayer of your Lordship's

Dutiful and humble servant,

JOHN BENTALL.

Little Dean's Yard, Westminster Abbey,

27th December, 1841.

THE following Lectures were read to my Pupils on Sunday evenings during the latter part of 1840, but have been slightly altered in order to suit them to the general Reader. The Lectures are now published with an earnest hope that they may promote the study of the admirable Liturgy of our Church, and strengthen the attachment of her Members to that beautiful Form of Prayer.

I have already read to my Pupils Lectures on other parts of the Liturgy, and it is my intention to continue the subject from time to time, and to publish a second series on the Church Service, as far as the Lessons, in May, 1842.
