Senate bill No. 142, entitled "An act to amend the laws in relation to the sale and lease of the Agricultural College lands, and the investment of the proceeds as a permanent fund for the endowment and support of the Agricultural and Mechanical College and School of Mines and Metallurgy, being a department of the State University," was taken up, read second time and referred to the Committee on State Lands.

Senate bill No. 145, entitled "An act to provide for the selection of a uniform system of text-books for the use of the public schools of the State, and to regulate and control the introduction and sale of the same," was read second time and referred to the Committee on Education.

Senate bill No. 168, entitled "An act to amend section 7469, article 7, chapter 162, Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri, 1879," was

read second time and referred to the Committee on Township Organization.

Senate bill No. 174, entitled "An act in relation to appeal bonds and recognizances," was read second time and referred to Committee on Judiciary.

Senator DeArmond moved that when the Senate adjourn it adjourn until to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock, which was agreed to.

By consent, Senator Heard presented a petition from citizens of Sedalia and Pettis county, and one from Sedalia Lodge No. 656, Independent Order of Good Templars, praying for the submission of a Constitutional amendment to a vote of the people of this State, forever prohibiting the manufacture, sale or traffic in intoxicating liquors within the boundaries of this State; which were referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator DeArmond presented a petition from citizens of Polk county praying for the submission to a vote of the people a constitutional amendment prohibiting the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors in this State; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Senator Heaston introduced Senate joint and concurrent resolution No. 15, entitled "Joint and concurrent resolution in relation to adjournment;" which was read first time and ordered not printed.

On motion of Senator Perkins, the Senate adjourned.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Prayer by the Chaplain.

The journal of yesterday read and approved.

Senator Heaston presented a petition from citizens of Jameson, Daviess county, asking the submission of an amendment to the Constitution to prohibit the manufacture of, or traffic in, intoxicating liquors in this State; which was referred to the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

The following message was received from the House of Representatives through Mr. Hawley, Chief Clerk:

MR. PRESIDENT: I am instructed by the House to inform the Senate that the House has taken up and passed House bill No. 464, entitled "An act to amend section 6733 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, relating to collectors' bonds," in which the concurrence of the Senate is respectfully requested.

The President announced that all other business would be suspended and directed the Secretary to read at length House joint and concurrent resolution No. 13, entitled "Joint and concurrent resolution instructing our Senators and requesting our Representatives in Congress to favor the passage of an act giving pensions to the surviving soldiers of the Mexican war," and that, unless objections be made, he would sign the same, to the end that it may become a law.

No objection being made, House joint and concurrent resolution No. 13 was read at length by the Secretary, and the presiding officer, in the presence of the Senate, in open session, and no other business intervening, affixed his signature thereto; said bill was also signed by the Secretary.

Senator DeArmond submitted the following report from the Committee on Judiciary, which was read:
