Senate bill No. 201, entitled "An act to authorize counties and municipal townships to build graded, graveled or macadamized roads, and to create an indebtedness therefor," was read second time and referred to Committee on Roads and highways.

Senate bill No. 202, entitled "An act to amend section 1878, article 24, Revised Statutes, entitled 'Crimes and criminal procedure,'" was read second time and referred to the Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

Senate bill No. 203, entitled "An act in relation to criminal procedure in the city of St. Louis, and to repeal sections 18 and 19 of the Appendix to the Revised Statutes of the State of Missouri, concerning 'The criminal court,'" was read second time and referred to Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

Senate bill No. 204, entitled "An act to exempt the husband from the payment of debts of the wife contracted before marriage," was read second time and referred to Committee on judiciary.

House bill No. 238, entitled "An act for the relief of James W. Liggett, marshal of Jackson county, was taken up read third time and passed by the following vote:

Senator DeArmond called up Senate bill No. 103, entitled "An act to regulate practice in the Supreme Court, and to aid in disposing of cases pending in said court," and the pending substitute for said bill was read the second time and adopted and ordered engrossed.

The President laid before the Senate the following communication from the State Auditor, which was referred to the Committee on State Lands:

HON. ROBERT A. CAMPBELL, President of the Senate:

DEAR SIR: In compliance with section 6111, Revised Statutes, I submit the following abstract of certificates of the Register of Lands filed in my office on the 16th and 18th days of February, 1881, in relation to erroneous sales by the State of Missouri of certain tracts of State lands, each of said tracts of land having been sold to two persons:

ABSTRACT:

West half northwest quarter of section 36, township 27, range 13 east, sold to Hezekiah Lindsay, of Brown county, Ohio, October 5th, 1840, for $99.83.

West half northwest quarter of section 36, township 27, range 13 east, sold to Geo. W. Arnold and Geo. W. Fricke, of Scott county, Mo., January 22, 1868, for $103.60.

Northwest quarter of section 31, township 66, range 10 west, containing 142 and 20-100 acres, sold to Edward Price of Marion county, Mo., July 7, 1869, for $177.75.

It is further certified by the Register of Lands that said northwest quarter, section 31, township 66, range 10 west, is not included in any grant of land by the United States to the State of Missouri, and that the above facts are shown by a letter from the Commissioner of the General Land Office, dated May 4th, 1844, rejecting said tract of land, etc. Very respectfully,

On motion of Senator Bryant, the Senate went into executive session at 12:10 o'clock P. M., and at 12:35 P. M. the Senate resumed regular session.

Senator Cottey called up substitute for Senate bills Nos. 3, 14, 15, 21, 32, 38, 54, 59, 79, 109, 127 and 131, entitled "An act to revise and amend chapter 145, Revised Statutes, entitled 'Of the assessment and collection of the revenue,'" and moved that it be made the special order for to-morrow morning at 11 o'clock; which was agreed to.

Senator DeArmond moved that when the Senate adjourn, it adjourn until 10 o'clock to-morrow morning; carried.

On motion of Senator DeArmond the Senate adjourned.
