Senate bill No. 84 was taken up and the following amendment, reported by the committee, was read and agreed to:

Amend by inserting after the word "Missouri," in the fourth line, original bill, the words, "payable thirty years after date, and "— The bill, as amended, was ordered engrossed.

On second reading of Senate bills, Senate Joint and concurrent resolution No. 12, entitled "Senate joint and concurrent resolution in relation to the absence of members," was read second time and referred to Committee on Retrenchment and Reform.

Senate joint and concurrent resolution No. 13, entitled "Joint and concurrent resolution providing for furnishing township clerks with the Statutes and session acts of the General Assembly," was read second time and referred to Committee on Township Organization.

Senate joint and concurrent resolution No. 14, entitled " Joint and concurrent resolution urging Congress to provide for a survey and preparation of sectional and schedule maps of the swamp and overflowed lands in Southeast and Northeastern Arkansas," was read second time and referred to Committee on Swamp Lands.

Senate bill No. 205, entitled "An act to amend section 7195 of chapter 152 of the Revised Statutes of 1879, in relation to shows and circuses," was read second time and referred to Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

Senate bill No. 208, entitled "An act relating to the publication and distribution of Hunt's Minutes,'" was read second time and referred to Committee on Judiciary.

Senate bill No. 210, entitled "An act to repeal section 3 of an act concerning street railroads in the city of St. Louis,' approved January 16, 1860," was read second time and referred to Committee on Internal Improvements.

Senate bill No. 216, entitled "An act to prohibit corporations that operate parallel and competing lines of railroads from consolidating, and to prohibit the officers of the one from being the officers of the other," was read second time and referred to Committee on Internal Improvements.

Senate bill No. 218, entitled "An act to amend section 1486 of article 6 of chapter 24 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, concerning crimes and criminal procedure," was read second time and referred to Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

Senate bill No. 223, entitled "An act to amend section 24, article 6, Revised Statutes, in relation to exacting illegal fees," was read second time and referred to Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

Senate bill No. 227, entitled "An act to amend section 5607, chapter 103, Revised Statutes, entitled 'Of fees;'" was read second time and referred to Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

Senate bill No. 230, entitled "An act to amend section 6938, chapter 147, Revised Statutes of Missouri, entitled 'Of roads and highways, was read second time and referred to Committee on Roads and Highways.

Senate bill No. 231, entitled "An act for the relief of George W. Arnold and George W. Fricke, and to appropriate money therefor," was read second time and referred to Committee on Ways and Means.

Senate bill No. 232, entitled "An act for the relief of Edward Price and to appropriate money therefor," was read second time and referred to Committee on Ways and Means.

Senator Bryant introduced Senate bill No. 234, entitled "An act making an appropriation for the enlargement of the main edifice of the University of the State of Missouri, at Columbia," which was read first time and 50 copies ordered printed.

Senator Jacobs introduced "Senate joint and concurrent resolution No. 17, instructing our Senators and requesting our Representatives in Congress to use all, means in their representative capacity to secure the appropriation of $25,000.00 for the purpose of improving Grand River and reclaiming the swamp lands lying along said river;" which was read first time and 50 copies ordered printed.

On third reading of Senate bills, Senate bill No. 45, entitled "An act to provide and regulate an additional mode of punishment for crime," was taken up, read third time and passed by the following vote:

Senator DeArmond moved that when the Senate adjourn, it adjourn until 7 o'clock to night; which was agreed to.

Senator Morrisson moved to reconsider the vote by which substitute for Senate bill No. 125 was ordered printed; which was agreed to.

The substitute was then read first and second times and adopted, and the bill ordered engrossed.

Senator Hutt, from Committee on the Whole, reported progress, and asked leave to sit again to-morrow morning at 11 o'clock, which was granted.

Senator Lloyd introduced Senate bill No. 235, entitled "An act for the relief of Patrick H. Edwards, formerly judge of the 14th judicial circuit of the State of Missouri, and to appropriate money therefor;" which was read first time and ordered not printed.

On motion of Senator Edwards of Lafayette, the Senate adjourned until to-morrow morning at ten o'clock.
