Senator Mabrey submitted the following report from the Committee on Swamp Lands, which was read:

PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Swamp Lands, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 148, entitled "An act providing for the payment of outstanding warrants issued for the drainege of swamp lands, and to provide funds therefor," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass with the accompanying amendments.

Senate bill No. 148 was taken up, and the following amendments, reported by the Committee, were agreed to:

Amend section 1 by inserting between the words "therefore" and

and,” in line 32, the following: "not exceeding, in connection with other taxes, the limitation fixed by the Constitution."

Amend by striking out all of section 2.

On motion of Senator Morrisson, the Senate went into Committee of the Whole for the consideration of Senate bill No. 67. Senator Hutt in the chair.

The committee rose, and Senator Hutt reported progress, and asked leave to sit again at 11 o'clock Monday; which was granted.

Senator McGrath introduced the following resolution, which was read, and, on motion of Senator DeArmond, indefinitely postponed:

WHEREAS, Governor T. T. Crittenden has officially requested the resignations of John D. Finney and Leslie A. Moffett, two of the Police Commissioners of the city of St. Louis, appointed by ex-Governor John S. Phelps, and confirmed by the Senate for a term of four years, expiring January 1, 1883; and,

WHEREAS, The removal of said parties is a serious reflection upon their character as men and citizens, without a possible chance for redress; that a regard for the sacredness of human character demands that they at least have an investigation into the facts, that they may have a chance to vindicate their characters and relieve themselves from any charge that may now be against them; therefore, be it

Resolved, That a committee of five Senators be appointed to visit St. Louis and investigate the alleged official misconduct of the late and present Board of Police Commissioners, and that this committee report the result to the Senate as early as practicable.

Resolved, That for this purpose the committee be empowered to send for papers and persons, that they may obtain testimony bearing upon the subject of investigation, and to appoint a clerk and sergeantat-arms for said committee.

On motion of Senator Heard, the Senate adjourned until Monday morning at 10 o'clock.

Senator Walker introduced Senate bill No. 245, entitled "An act to reorganize the geological survey of the State of Missouri;" which was read first time and ordered not printed.

Senator Perkins submitted the following report from the Committee on Roads and Highways:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Roads and Highways, to whom was referred Senate bill No. 30, entitled "An act authorizing the establishing, widening and improving public roads, avenues and boulevards," beg leave to report that they have considered the same, and recommend that it do pass with the accompanying amendments. Senate bill No. 30 was taken up, and the following amendments, reported by the committee, agreed to:

Amend section 1 by inserting the words "twenty-five" between the words one hundred " and "feet."

Amend by striking out section 5.
