Senator Cottey offered the following resolution, which was read the first and second times and adopted:

Resolved, That the Secretary call the Senatorial districts in numerical order, and as they are called the Senators elect shall advance to the bar of the Senate and present their certificates of election, which certificates shall be read aloud by the Secretary, and, if found to conform to the requirements of the law, and no objection be made, the persons holding them respectively shall be sworn in as members of the Senate.

In pursuance of the foregoing resolution, on call of the roll of members elect the following Senators came forward, presented their credentials, took and subscribed to the oath of office and took their seats as Senators:

Senators Dungan, Bland, Jacobs, Stephens, Hutt, Dobyns, McMahan, Morrisson, Mabrey, Pehle, McGrath and Rogers.

The following gentlemen presented their credentials, which were read, and being by the Senate deemed irregular and not in conformity with the requirements of the Constitution, the same were referred to the Committee on Elections:

Mr. Owen T. Rouse, from the Seventh Senatorial District.

Mr Elisha M. Edwards, from the Nineteenth Senatorial District. Mr. Thos. G. Allen, from the Twenty-seventh Senatorial District. Mr. Henry Manistre, from the Twenty-ninth Senatorial District.

Senator Edwards of St. Charles offered the following resolution, which was read first and second times and adopted:

Resolved 1, That a committee of five be appointed by the President to prepare and submit rules for the government of the Senate for the present session, and report with all convenient speed.

Resolved 2, That the rules of the Senate for the Thirtieth General Assembly, so far as the same can apply, shall be and are the rules of the present body, until the report of said committee shall have been adopted in whole or in part.

Resolved 3, That the report of said committee shall be in order and take priority of all motions and orders, as prescribed in the rules of the Senate for the Thirtieth General Assembly.

Senator Heaston offered the following resolution, which was read first and second times and adopted:

WHEREAS, There have been matters referred to the Committee on Elections requiring prompt examination; therefore

Resolved, That the Committee on Elections of the Thirtieth General Assembly be continued, and that the President appoint to fill the vacancies, and that said committee continue until the regular committees are appointed.

Senator Cabell offered the following resolution, which was read first and second times and adopted:

Resolved, That the Secretary of State is hereby authorized to furnish each member of the Senate a copy of the last Revised Statutes of Missouri for use during the present session.

On motion of Senator Edwards of St. Charles, the Senate adjourned until 10 o'clock to-morrow morning.

SECOND DAY-THURSDAY, January 6.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

The President in the chair.

A quorum present.

Prayer by the Rev. Dr. Masker.

The journal of yesterday read and approved.

On motion of Senator Bradley, the President appointed Senators Bradley, Morrisson and Stephens, as a Special Committee to superintend the ventilating and heating of the Senate Chamber.

Senator Mackay offered the following resolution, which was read and adopted:

Resolved, That the Senate now proceed to elect permanent officers for the session, and that they be elected in the following order:

First-President, pro tem.

Second-Secretary.

Third-Assistant Secretary.

Fourth--Sergeant-at-Arms.

Fifth-Doorkeeper.

Sixth-Chaplain.

Seventh-Folder and Messenger.

Eighth-Official Reporter.

Ninth-Two Pages.

The President then announced that nominations for President pro tem. of the Senate were now in order.

Senator Cottey nominated Senator Morrisson.

Senator Rogers nominated Senator Gottschalk.

There being no other nominations, the roll of the Senate was called, and the following Senators voted—

FOR SENATOR MORRISSON-Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrns, Caldwell, Cottey, De Armond, Dobyns, Edwards of St. Charles, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, Naylor, Perkins, Stephens and Walker-20.

The following Senators voted

FOR SENATOR GOTTSCHALK--Senators Dungan, Jacobs, Pehle and Rogers-4.

Senator Morrisson, having received the votes of a majority of all the Senators elect, was declared duly elected President por tem. of the Senate.

The President then announced that nominations for Secretary of the Senate were in order.

Senator DeArmond nominated Francis C. Nesbit.

There being no other nomination, the roll was called, and the following voted

FOR FRANCIS C. NESBIT-Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrnes, Caldwell, Cottey, DeArmond, Dobyns, Dungan, Edwards of St. Charles, Gottschalk, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Jacobs, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, Morrisson, Naylor, Pehle, Perkins, Rogers, Stephens and Walker-26.

There being no dissenting vote, Mr. Nesbit was declared unanimously elected Secretary of the Senate.

Nominations for Assistant Secretary being in order,

Senator Edwards of St. Charles nominated Wm. H. Mayo of St.

Louis.

There being no other nomination, on call of the roll, the following Senators voted

FOR MR. MAYO-Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrnes, Caldwell, Cottey, DeArmond, Dobyns, Dungan, Edwards of St. Charles, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, McGrath, Morrisson, Naylor, Pehle, Perkins, Rogers, Stephens and Walker-25. There being no dissenting vote, Mr. Mayc was declared unanimously elected Assistant Secretary of the Senate.

Nominations for Sergeant-at-Arms being in order,

Senator Walker nominated Ashley W. Ewing of Cole county. There being no other nomination, on call of the roll, the following Senators voted

For Mr. EwinG-Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrnes, Cabell, Caldwell, Cottey, DeArmond, Dobyns, Dungan, Edwards of St. Charles, Gottschalk, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Jacobs, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, McGrath, Morrisson, Naylor, Pehle, Perkins, Rogers, Stephens and Walker-28.

There being no dissenting vote, Mr. Ewing was declared unanimously elected Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate.

Nominations for Doorkeeper being in order,

Senator Lloyd nominated Benjamin P. Bailey of Callaway county. There being no other nomination, on call of the roll, the following Senators voted-

FOR MR. BAILEY-Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrnes, Cabell, Caldwell, Cottey, DeArmond, Dobyns, Dungan, Edwards of St. Charles, Gottschalk, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Jacobs, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, McGrath, Morrisson, Naylor, Pehle, Perkins, Rogers, Stephenson and Walker-28.

There being no dissenting vote, Mr. Bailey was declared unanimously elected Doorkeeper of the Senate.

Nominations for Chaplain being in order, Senator Naylor nominated Rev. Wm. A. Masker.

There being no other nomination, the roll was called and the following Senators voted

FOR REV. Mr. MASKER-Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrnes, Cabell, Caldwell, Cottey, DeArmond, Dobyns, Dungan, Edwards of St. Charles, Gottschalk, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, McGrath, Morrison, Naylor, Pehle, Perkins, Rogers, Stephens and Walker-27.

Mr. Masker having received all the votes cast, was declared unanimously elected Chaplain of the Senate.

Senators Morrisson nominated H. C. Ross for Folder and Messenger of the Senate, who was declared unanimously elected by the following vote, there being no dissenting voice:

Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrnes Cabell, Caldwell, Cottey, DeArmond Dobyns, Dungan, Edwards of St. Charles, Gottschalk, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Jacobs, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, McGrath, Morrisson, Naylor, Pehle, Perkins, Rogers and Stephens-28.

Senator Cabell nominated W. T. Marsh for Official Reporter of the Senate, and, no other nomination being made, Mr. Marsh was declared unanimously elected by the following vote:

Senators Bland, Bradley, Byrnes, Cabell, Caldwell, Cottey, DeArmond, Dobyns, Dungan, Edwards of St. Charles, Gottschalk, Headlee, Heaston, Hutt, Jacobs, Lloyd, Mabrey, Mackay, Manring, McMahan, McGrath, Morrisson, Naylor, Pehle, Perkins, Rogers and Stephens-27. Senator Heaston nominated Richard W. Phipps and Fred. Weatherby for Pages of the Senate.

There being no other nominations, Richard W. Phipps was declared unanimously elected by the following vote, there being no opposing vote :
