Ulysses is a modernist novel by Irish writer James Joyce, published in 1922. The novel chronicles the peripatetic appointments and encounters of Leopold Bloom in Dublin in the course of an ordinary day, that of June 16, 1904, and establishes a series of parallels between the poem and the novel, with structural correspondences between the characters and experiences of Bloom and Odysseus, Molly Bloom and Penelope, and Stephen Dedalus and Telemachus. Careful structuring, and experimental prose have led it to be regarded as one of the greatest literary works in history. James Joyce, February 2, 1882 - January 13, 1941, was an Irish novelist, short story writer, poet, teacher and literary critic. His fictional universe is anchored in Dublin, his hometown, and he has also lived in Paris, Trieste and Zurich. James Joyce is considered one of the most influential and important writers. He decided to settle and live in Zurich, where he died at the age of 58.
