PREFACE.

THE author considers it due to his readers to state that some portions of this volume, although not in so complete a form, have appeared in one of the leading denominational magazines. The thanks which he received from several persons for those articles have induced him to publish them in their present form, in connection with subjects of equal interest and importance to students of God's Word.

The author hopes it will be discovered that the following pages contain nothing but what is in perfect harmony with the Scriptures.

On several points it will be seen that the writer differs from some authors who have been looked up to as authorities; he trusts, however, that he has not done so in a single instance without, after careful study of the Scriptures, seeing the necessity for so doing, and assigning a satisfactory reason for the direction of others.

The desire of the writer has been, that he might under Divine direction lead his readers to discover

more of the fulness which there is in the person and work of Jesus.

With the hope and prayer that God may be glorified, the work is committed to Him without whose blessing no good can be accomplished.
