BYROM STREET CHAPEL, LIVERPOOL.

It is already known to many of our readers, that our esteemed brother Mr. James Smith, late pastor of the Baptist church of Park-street, London, has consented to preach in Byrom-street chapel, Liverpool, with a view to form a church there, as we understand it, on the principles of strict communion. The chapel has been recently purchased by some zealous friend or friends

It will doubtless be interesting to the friends of evangelical truth, to know, that the Baptist church here, has scarcely been five years in existence, that it has already seventy members, thirty-six of whom have been baptized by Mr. Cathcart, that its Sabbath school, only thirteen months established, has about 170 children, and that through the liberality and devoted exertions of Mr. John Wood, a handsome chapel has been erected, capable of accommodating 350, without galleries, and about 600 with them for which it is fitted, and two exceedingly neat Sabbath school-rooms, fitted to hold 150

children each.

It is true a debt darkens this bright picture, but it is confidently expected that when

They have also proceeded wisely as we think, in securing the services of our esteemed brother. May our gracious Lord abundantly succeed the enterprize, and may hundreds, yea thousands, have to bless God for it eternally.

SPARROW HILL CHAPEL, LOUGHBOROUGH.

On April 7, this beautiful and commodious place of worship, after being closed for twelve months, and the church and congregation dispersed, was re-opened with a view to the resuscitation of the Particular Baptist cause in this town, Mr. James Smith, jun., having engaged to supply the pulpit for six months. Towards the close of that period, success having been so far realised, Mr. S. received, and has accepted, the unanimous, affectionate, and cordial invitation, both of the church and congregation attending upon his ministry to become their pastor, and entered upon that office at the commencement of October, with a good prospect of ultimate success.

Total 9240

By the above, it will be seen that there has been a great number added to the churches in the respective associations, showing a total increase of 9821 in the associated churches. Taking into consideration the churches which are not associated, the total increase in the principality will be above TEN THOUSAND, which (in the memory of man) I think is unprecedented. Well may we say that the Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad. Yours, &c., GEORGE HILEY.
