Paris, chez Larny, de l'Imprimerie de Monsieur, 1787 UNIQUE COPY, ON VELLUM. One of the most remarkable, if indeed it be not the very finest specimen of modern typography executed on vellum. Considering the size of the page, and the difficulty met with in obtaining a clear surface, together with a uniform thickness of the material for so large a work, it is a marvel of perfection. The series of drawings by Martini, included in the above, disclose a spirited and characteristic touch, that evinces the hand of a consummate master. In the colored series, although they are only 5 by 4 inches in size, the figures, flowers, foliage, costumes, &c., are so exquisitely touched, and with a coloring so brilliant, harmonious, and delicate, as to excite the astonishment and admiration of the beholder. The instructions of the owner to M. Lortic were, that the book should be placed in a dress equal to its merits, and most thoroughly were his orders obeyed. It is a gem that any collector might covet.
