224 "Blessed are they that dwell in Thy courts; they will be still praising Thee."

I mf PLEASANT are Thy courts above

In the land of light and love;
Pleasant are Thy courts below,
In this land of sin and woe.
cres Oh, my spirit longs and faints
For the converse of Thy saints,
For the brightness of Thy face,
King of Glory, God of grace!
2 mf Happy birds, that sing and fly
Round Thy altars, O Most High!
Happier souls, that find a rest
In a heavenly Father's breast!
Like the wandering dove, that found
No repose on earth around,
cres They can to their ark repair
And enjoy it ever there.

Happy souls! Their praises flow
Even in this vale of woe;

cres Waters in the desert rise,

Manna feeds them from the skies :
f On they go from strength to strength,
Till they reach Thy throne at length,
At Thy feet adoring fall,

mf Who hast led them safe through all.
4 Lord, be mine this prize to win;
Guide me through a world of sin;
Keep me by Thy saving grace;
Give me at Thy side a place.
mf Sun and shield alike Thou art;

Guide and guard my erring heart. cres Grace and glory flow from Thee; f Shower, oh, shower them, Lord, on me! Amen.

1 mf STAND up, and bless the Lord, Ye people of His choice;

Stand up, and bless the Lord your God,

With heart and soul and voice.

2 mf Though high above all praise, Above all blessing high,

Who would not fear His holy name, cres And laud, and magnify? 3 mf Oh, for the living flame,

From His own altar brought,

To touch our lips, our minds inspire, cres And wing to heaven our thought! 4 mf God is our strength and song,

And His salvation ours;

[claimed cres Then be His love in Christ proWith all our ransomed powers.

5 mf Stand up, and bless the Lord;
The Lord your God adore;

cres Stand up, and bless His glorious name
f Henceforth for evermore! Amen.

"He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom."

1 mf GRACIOUS Saviour, holy Shepherd, 3 mf Let Thy holy word instruct them; Little ones are dear to Thee;

Gathered with Thine arms, and carried In Thy bosom, may they be Sweetly, fondly, safely tended, cres From all want and danger free. 2p Tender Shepherd, never leave them From Thy fold to go astray; By Thy warning love directed,

May they walk the narrow way; Thus direct them, thus defend them, Lest they fall an easy prey.

Fill their minds with heavenly light;
Let Thy love and grace constrain them
To approve whate'er is right,
Take Thine easy yoke, and wear it,
And to prove Thy burden light.
4 mf Taught to lisp the holy praises

Which on earth Thy children sing,
Both with lips and hearts unfeigned
Glad thank-offerings may they bring ;
cres Then, with all the saints in glory,
f Join to praise their Lord and King.
Amen.

"As long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord."

I mf GOD of that glorious gift of grace By which Thy people seek Thy face, When in Thy presence we appear, Vouchsafe us faith to venture near!

2 m Confiding in Thy truth alone,

Here, on the steps of Jesus' throne,
We lay the treasure Thou hast given,
To be received and reared for heaven.

3 Lent to us for a season, we
cres Lend him for ever, Lord, to Thee;
Assured, that if to Thee he live,
We gain in what we seem to give.

4 mf Large and abundant blessings shed,
Warm as these prayers, upon his head!
And on his soul the dews of grace,
Fresh as these drops upon his face!

5 mf Make him and keep him Thine own child, Meek follower of the Undefiled;

cres Possessor here of grace and love,

Inheritor of heaven above! Amen.

"I will establish My covenant between Me and thee, and thy seed after thee."

I mf OUR children, Lord, in faith and prayer
We now devote to Thee;

Let them Thy covenant mercies share, 3 mf
And Thy salvation see.

2 Such helpless babes Thou didst embrace,
While dwelling here below;

[blocks in formation]

To us and ours, O God of grace,

The same compassion show.
In early days their hearts secure

From worldly snares, we pray;
And let them to the end endure
In every righteous way. Amen.

"Thou leddest Thy people like a flock."

I mf SAVIOUR, who Thy flock art feeding 3
With the shepherd's kindest care,
All the feeble gently leading,
While the lambs Thy bosom share;

2 cres Now, these little ones receiving,

Fold them in Thy gracious arm;
There, we know, thy word believing,
Only there, secure from harm.

4

Never, from Thy pasture roving,
Let them be the lion's prey;
Let Thy tenderness, so loving,
cres Keep them all life's dangerous way:

Then within Thy fold eternal
Let them find a resting-place;
cres Feed in pastures ever vernal,
Drink the rivers of Thy grace!

(For Adult Baptisms, see hymns of "Gratitude and Consecration.")

Amen.
