"His name shall be called Wonderful."

I mfJOIN all the glorious names
Of wisdom, love, and power,
That ever mortals knew,

That angels ever bore;

All are too mean to speak His worth,
Too mean to set my Saviour forth.

2 mf Great Prophet of my God,

My tongue would bless Thy name;
By Thee the joyful news

Of our salvation came,

cres The joyful news of sins forgiven,

3 mf Jesus, my great High Priest,
p Offered His blood and died;
cres My guilty conscience seeks
No sacrifice beside:

f His powerful blood did once atone, And now it pleads before the throne.

4 mf My dear almighty Lord,

My Conqueror and my King,
Thy sceptre and Thy sword,
Thy reigning grace, I sing;
Thine is the power; behold, I sit

Of hell subdued, and peace with Heaven. dim In willing bonds beneath Thy feet.

I mf SHEPHERD of tender youth, Guiding, in love and truth, Through devious ways; f Christ, our triumphant King, We come Thy name to sing, Hither our children bring, ff To shout Thy praise.

2 mf Thou art our holy Lord, The all-subduing Word, Healer of strife:

Thou didst Thyself abase, That from sin's deep disgrace cres Thou mightest save our race, f And give us life.

3 mfO wisdom's great High Priest, Thou hast prepared the feast Of holy love;

p While in our mortal pain, None calls on Thee in vain ; cres Help Thou dost not disdain, f Help from above.

4 mf Be ever near our side,

Our Shepherd and our Guide,
Our staff and song:
Jesus, Thou Christ of God,
The way Thyself hast trod,
Lead us to Thine abode;
f Make our faith strong.

5 mf So now, and till we die,
Sound we Thy praises high,

And joyful sing: Infants, and the glad throng Who to Thy Church belong, cres Unite to swell the song

ff To Christ our King. Amen.

[night,

Thine ageless love, Thy matchless grace,

In Christ our Lord appearing. When such a gift God gave for thee,

I mf HOW brightly shines the Morning Star! 3 mf Aid me, my God, to sing Thy praise,
What ray divine springs from afar!
God's glory there is shining.
Bright Beam of God! which scatters
And guides the wandering soul aright
Which after truth is pining.

Jesus! God's Word!
Truth revealing,

Sorrow healing,

Soothe our sighing,

Dry our tears, and end our dying. 2 mf My comfort here, my joy above,

Man's Son, Son of the Father's love,

Enthroned in highest heaven,

When such a brother true is He,

cres Why still, my soul, be fearing?
Choose Him, know Him,
Greatest, dearest,
Best, and nearest,

To befriend thee

'Gainst all foes who may offend thee.

4 f To Him who conquered death and hell, To Him let joyous anthems swell

cres With my whole heart Thy praise I sing ; cres
To Thee, our Prophet, Priest, and King,
Be endless honours given.
Saviour, to Thee,

Trusting, clinging,

Come I bringing

cres Soul and spirit,

Thee, my portion, to inherit.

2 mf Thou art the Truth: Thy Word alone 4 mf Thou art the Way, the Truth, the Life:

True wisdom can impart ;

Thou only canst inform the mind,

And purify the heart.

Grant us that way to know,

That truth to keep, that life to win, cres Whose joys eternal flow. Amen.

I mf THERE is a name I love to hear;
I love to sing its worth;

It sounds like music in mine ear,
The sweetest name on earth.

2 mf It tells me of a Saviour's love,
Who died to set me free;

cres It tells me of His precious blood, The sinner's perfect plea.

3 mf It tells me what my Father hath In store for every day,

And, though I tread a darksome path, cres Yields sunshine all the way.

4 mf It tells of One whose loving heart
p Can feel my deepest woe,
Who in my sorrow bears a part
That none can bear beiow.
BICKLEY.

5 mf It bids my trembling soul rejoice, And dries each rising tear;

p It tells me in a still small voice cres To trust and never fear.

6 mf Jesus! the name I love so well,
The name I love to hear;

No saint on earth its worth can tell,
No heart conceive how dear.

7 mf This name shall shed its fragrance still Along this thorny road,

cres Shall sweetly smooth the rugged hill
That leads me up to God.

8 mf And there, with all the blood-bought
From sin and sorrow free, [throng,
I'll sing the new eternal song
Of Jesus' love to me. Amen.

"In Him was life; and the life was the light of men."

Imf O LIGHT, whose beams illumine all
From twilight dawn to perfect day,
Shine Thou before the shadows fall
That lead our wandering feet astray;
cres At morn and eve Thy radiance pour,
mf That youth may love, and age adore.
2mfO Way, through whom our souls draw

[blocks in formation]

To Thee our earliest strength we vow; Thy love will bless the pure and meek; When dreams or mists beguile our sight, cres Turn Thou our darkness into light. 4 mf O Life, the well that ever flows

To slake the thirst of those that faint, cres Thy power to bless what seraph knows? f Thyjoy supreme what words can paint? mf In earth's last hour of fleeting breath cres Be Thou our Conqueror over death. 5ƒ O Light, O Way, O Truth, O Life,

O Jesus, born mankind to save, dim Give Thou Thy peace in deadliest strife, mf Shed Thou Thy calm on stormiest

wave;

cres Be Thou our hope, our joy, our dread, f Lord of the living and the dead!

Amen.

"Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus."

1 mf BEHOLD what witnesses unseen
Encompass us around!

Men once, like us, with suffering tried,
But now with glory crowned.

2 mf Let us, with zeal like theirs inspired,
Pursue the Christian race,
And, freed from each encumbering
Their holy footsteps trace.

3 ƒ Behold a Witness nobler still,
Who trod affliction's path!

Jesus, at once the Finisher
And Author of our faith.

4 mf He, for the joy before Him set,
So generous was His love,

p Endured the cross, despised the shame,
cres And now He reigns above.

5 mf If He the scorn of wicked men
With patience did sustain,

[weight,

[ocr errors]

Becomes it those for whom He died
To murmur or complain?
Then let our hearts no more despond,
Our hands be weak no more;
Still let us trust our Father's love,
His wisdom still adore. Amen.
