(1) The Senfe of thefe Words feems to be this. Our Lord gives his Apofles authority to fettle the Terms and Conditions on which Men fheuld be accepted by God. They being infallibly affifted, were to inform them, what Duties God required, and what Sins he forbid This Com miffion the Apoftles executed, declaring in the plainest Expreffions, that God required, that Men fhou d believe in the Lord Jefus Chrift, that they fhould Repent and turn from their Sins, and ferioufly endeavour to bey the Laws of Jefus Chrift, and that unless they complied with thele Conditions, they were not to expect Salvation by him. Those who would fee more on this Subject, may confult Dr. Whitby on the Pla ces here referr'd to. Alfo Lightfoot, &c.

(1) Some understanding thefe Words literally, have been led into Very great Miftakes, which would have been prevented. if Tranflators had rendred them as they are to be understood. Our Lord's Meaning undoubtedly is, Some live as Eunuchs do for the Kingdom of Heavens fake. That is, they do not Marry. But if a Cannot live chatly without Marriage, it is their Duty to Marry. But if they have received fuch a special Gift from God, as to be able to preferve their Chastity unmarried, they may fo continue, without making Vows, which often entangle the Confcience.
