PREFACE. My apology, if apology is needed, for offering this little book to the public, is that in a ministry of many years amongst a large working population, I have found an immense amount of practical infidelity caused by a false conception of Almighty God, arising in no small degree from the popular teaching concerning the final punishment of the wicked. I have endeavoured to show in a simple and concise form, which may be useful for those who have neither time or opportunity to study larger works, that the so-called popular theology is contrary to the Word of God, that it is not taught by the Church in any of her Articles or formularies, and that it is contrary also to a reasonable belief in God as One whose mercy is over all His works. I acknowledge with gratitude the assistance I have received from the valuable work of the Rev. Edward White, "Life in Christ." If this little book helps any, who are in doubt and difficulty, to lay hold more firmly upon Christ, and to believe that God is indeed their Father, and a Father whose very name is Love, I shall be deeply thankful.
