Which fill the Mind with Thoughts immenfe
Of HIM who's good and great;
And give, to ev'ry Man of Sense,
A more exalted State.

GOD's Works, I fee, did first proceed
From Wifdom and pure Love;
And were intended us to lead
To nobler Works Above.

To lead Us, whilft we dwell below,
To truft in HIM, when try'd;
HIM Here to praife, to love, and know
As our Cœleftial Guide.

For ever keeping This in Mind,
We're weak without his Aid,
But bleft by HIM, we're fure to find
Our Souls on HIM are flay'd.

Dependant Creatures fure We are
On GOD, who gave us Birth;
And can't fubfift without HIS Care,
One Moment here on Earth.

But Bleffed be HIS HOLY NAME,

His Providential Love

Is Evermore to Us the fame,

And never can remove.

Let ALL in Heav'n and Earth then blefs,
And praise HIS Holy Name,

Who gives to Man fuch Happiness,
And Evermore's the fame.

Το

To ALL Mankind HFS Mercy is,
It flows to Ev'ry Soul;

And never unto Man will cease,
Whilft endless Ages roll.

'Tis true, we may oppofe His Grace
Reject His Heav'nly Plan;

Still juft and true are all HIS Ways
To Ev'ry Child of Man.

To Us He hath moft kindly giv'n
Of Life or Death the Choice;

And We must have a Hell or Heav'n,
As We obey this Voice.

A Heav'n, if We fupremely love
Our Neighbour and our GOD;
But if this Way We difapprove,
A Hell is our Abode.

Tho' Heav'n holds forth bright Scenes of Blife,
Which fuit our Nature best,

If We won't ufe our Faculties,

We must remain unbleft.

If We GOD's Mercy thus abuse,
Invert His Order pure;

In HIM no Change this doth produce,
Tho' We the Ills endure.

We must have Happiness or Shame,
According to our State;

Yet GOD's for Evermore the fame,
Moft merciful and great.

[blocks in formation]

And that He can't his Bleffings give

Alike to Ev'ry Soul,

Proceeds from this; Some won't receive
His Grace to make Them whole.

Their Selfish, and their Worldly Love
Repels the Heav'nly State,

And keeps their Hearts from Things Above,
Nay, makes Them fuch Things hate.

In doing which They madly prize
A Love that is unchafte,

And won't be number'd with the Wife,
But have a vicious Tafte:

Which State inverted, only can
Be chang'd by Grace Divine;
Which Gráce Alone makes the New-Man,
And Us to Heav'n doth join.

I mean, as We GOD's Light receive,.
And do the fame improve;

He doth to Us most freely give
A State of Heav'nly Love:

Indeed, He did at first create

Man for this Blifs fublime;
And wifkes Him to reinftate
In Heav'ns Cœleftial Clime.

Wishes Him Ever There to dwell,
In pureft Love to live;

And with the Angels tafte, and feel
The Blifs which GOD doth give,

But

But if. We for fuch Heav'nly Blis
Wilf not our Minds prepare,
We cannot tafte fuch folid Peace,
Such Bleffings cannot fhare.

And why? because Our Minds We close
Against the Heav'nly Sun,
And let our EVILS interpose,

Till our fhort Race is run.

Just as dark Clouds from this our Earth
Obfcure the natural Sun,

So We, rejecting the New-Birth,
For Ever are undone.

For E'er exclude the Heav'nly Light
From fhining in our Mind;
And thus in Darknefs We delight,
In which our Hell We find.

Here's the fole Reafon why We are
Excluded Heav'nly Scenes,
And cannot in their Glory fhare,
Or know what Heaven means.

We close the Door of our vile Hearts
Against GOD's Light and Love,
And won't receive what He imparts
To All in Heav'n Above.

On this Account, 'tis very plain,
We lead Ourfelves to Hell;

And tho' with Angels We might reign,

With Devils We will dwell.

To damn Ourselves We're madly bent
Against Our Maker's Will,
And counteract his kind Intent,
And won't His Love fulfil.

Therefore, it's not from our bleft LORD

Destruction is our Lot,

But We despise His HOLY WORD,
And fet His Works at nought.

But Ah! let Us be Wife in Time,
Act well our Parts on Earth;
We then shall dwell in Heav'ns bleft Clime
With Those of Heav'nly Birth.

Seek Ye firft the Kingdom of GOD and it's Righteoufnefs, and all Things fhall be added unto You. Matt. VI. 33.

Thou, even Thou, art LORD alone: Thou haft made Heaven, the Heaven of Heavens, with all their Hoft: the Earth and all Thing's that are therein; the Seas, and all that is. therein; and Thou preferveft Them all; and the Hoft of Heaven worshippeth Thee. Neh. IX. 6.

Let Every Thing that hath the LORD. Pfalm. CL. 6.
